Checked out your awesome build and yes pretty similar and going to steal your barn door latch idea to keep the door open.

Usually it's needed so you can nearly jacknife the trailer while attached to the truck for turning around in tight spaces/trails. At least mine was like that and that is why I did it.

Nice trailer too btw.

Congratulations! Ours was finished just over 12 years ago. We're loading it out for a 2 month trip today. Ready to add to its 55,000 miles of use....

A longer tongue also aids in backing up . slowing the trailer response time to your corrections . Making it much easier to back up

I started with a bare bones new street version of a Runaway Range Runner Camper & over 6 years of modification I end up with this. I done all the work myself; metal fabrication, paintwork, spray on bed liner, the electrical.
