OZ tent looks cool but I have a couple of questions if anyone can answer them.
1. In the 30 second setup the door to the tent is open while you pull the tent upright. How does this work in a downpour?
2. Without any center support for the roof, how will this handle a snow load?

I am currently researching family tents and thus the questions. So far this tent looks like it could be in the top 4 so far for non RTT.

1. How bad of a downpour would you have to have to get a significant amount of water on the floor. If you watch the setup, its literally about 3 seconds between folding out the second side, and lifting up on the front. You can't use the whole 30 seconds, that opening is not exposed the whole time.

2. If you look close, you can see the slope even on the top is pretty substantial. I don't think you would have to worry about snow accumulation as it would slide off. However, thinking of real world application, how much snow camping do you do? When you do it, for how long a time are you absolutly unable to sweep off the top of the tent? Unless you are gone all day in a snow storm, I don't think this would be a concern, and usually you aren't "family camping" in a snow storm.

Cots would be tricky IMO, because of the angle of the rear wall. The higher you go w/ your sleeping surface the less room you get. If you are going to use cots I would think you would need the largest version.

Not to thread-crap (I'm sure Oztents are a great product), but Springbar manufactures tents (in the US), that appear to accommodate cots quite easily. Folks who own them, rave about them:

Bear in mind that my experiences are flavored with the smallest version of this tent. The larger ones may very well be able to accomodate cots quite nicely.

I do like the springbars though. But I like setting up and down in 2 minutes more.

To Question #1 the tent goes up so fast that you will probably next to nothing. I mean I figure that from the time th second swing comes out and exposes the door to when you get the tent standing could be done in 5seconds. The water intake would me next to nothing.

The top of the tent has a center cross beam. Most tents in a heavy snow would reguire brushing off the heavy stuff anyway this is no worse then any other large tent imo.

I see your point about setting up in the rain. As far as snow camping, I haven't family snow camped. I have however camped when a freak storm came in and dumped snow. I just don't want to be awakened by the feel of cold tent material on my face due to a storm that dumped snow all night.

As I said, this looks like it could be in the top 4 for me.

I think any tent is a pain to take down in the rain, so I suppose I would say that the faster the better, right?:sunflower :REExeSwimmingHL:

Does anyone have a video of the Oztent deployment and teardown? You got me curious now. ;)
