That was my next set of questions, how does a 4 cyl 4x4 perform off the road?

Well in low range...bit of dog in 4-HI. Especially if you load it up.

Like my 3.4 better for both.

I seem to find a few every now and then with the 3.4 swap on the Oregon CL.

I couldn’t do a DLX... would have to be an SR5. And.... don’t need another truck. Lol

I might be all over that DLX if it wasn't automatic. I also prefer the 1991 and older DLX since they had complete gauges with tach, oil pressure and voltage. I don't know why Toyota sometimes includes those and sometimes doesn't.

Since 'automatic' came up, how does the slushbox perform? Im not a fan of autos at all. I like being in control.

Also since I am coming across these a lot, where does the 4runner fit in? I get the Tacoma is the mini truck and obviously so is the pickup, the T100/Tundra is the 'full size' but where does the Land Cruiser and 4runner fit in?

The automatics in the older trucks is solid mechanically. It's the A340, used through the Toyota trucks.

The problem is in how much power is lost through them and being able to hold an RPM while climbing. With the V6 it's usually tolerable but with the 22R-E and 3RZ 4 cylinders it's usually desirable to have more control.

a340H w/ the 3.0, though, which is an odd beast. The 340f is a darned solid transmission.

I was totally thinking that is a "Dave" truck. (well everything but the auto)

Of course BKG is a little too soft handed for a DLX and needs the SR5. :p

LOL, I'm not so soft that I *need* air conditioning or anything, although now that I have it can't say I want to give it up either...

The soft handed remark was directed at BKG. :D

BTW...I drive a SR5 TRD OR... ;)

I need AC for sure! Like my power windows too...could live without the power door locks though. They have gotten a little fussy these last few years....truck did just roll 376K though. Simple fix though, got a fresh key made seemed to take the fussiness away.
