I got a better deal than I posted from CarMAX, there are 30,000 miles on it, warranty is to 100,000 miles. This is my DD.

Which engine is it? Wiki says it's a SOHC, so I'm guessing it's the Cologne V6? Same as the base engine in the Explorer? That's a decently reliable, but completely uninteresting powerplant.
I doubt it's a Volvo, do they even make any Vee engines?

Yep, I thought I posted the exact same thing, but my post seems to not have gone through. But seeing as Ford has/does own/d all 3 (Volvo/Jag/Rover) companies it's not hard to understand. I belive they're all based off the "Dura-tech" block design with different Heads. for instance I belive the Volvo motors (at least the higher performance versions) use a Yamaha designed head where as the others have heads by Ford them selves.
I think you're right about wich motor it is, and I also belive that Volvo used a V-6 and 8 in their SUV

I see that you own a Jeep so you might not be a die hard Rover buyer. What's the draw to the LR3 for a DD? They are a real nice and real capable vehicle however the reliability (all years) is the absolute worst in the auto industry. For some, the trips to the dealer are worth it because they luv the vehicle. For others...no way.
What's your draw to the LR3?

Ratings? I can understand your feeling about "ratings". The reliability scores are not "ratings". They're based on real-world responses from vehicle owners. In other words they are factual.

My wife and I drove the LR3 for the heck of it and fell for the darn thing, as in we both love it. The ride is far better than anything else we tested. You'll be more likely to see the Jeep on the trail before this one. I have one trail rig that I'm dumping money into, I don't need two.
However, I'd be interested to see how the electronic vari-lock system works compared to the viscous coupling vari-lock system in the Jeep. Two completely different solutions to the same problem. Perhaps I can talk my wife into driving the LR3 while I drive the Grand on the trail. Then again maybe not, she is still mad a me for what I did to the Jeep.
Now that we've got our lives back in order I'll become more active. You'll see us on the trails this summer.

Just FYI,
There's one at Land Rover of San Antonio (2005) for around $20K and it's certified which I believe means it comes with a warranty.
