I firmly reject this as a "contribution" to anything, or anyone, other than the OP's ego. The dunes are a special place, and ought not be a canvas for a visitor's idea of what needs to be memorialized.

I care very little that these tracks will be covered quickly. They just should not be there, And, it embarrases me that it carries this sites name, that I hold in higher regard than this.

Clearly, I do not know where this dune is. If in Colorado, it could be a wilderness area, or perhaps BLM land. In either case, my opinion is unchanged. If it is wilderness, it very well may be illegal.

What if PETA or Habitat for Humanity carved their logos on natural landscape? Would you feel the same? I mean just another rightful cause right?

how does his hurt anything.... its a sand dune... they are constantly changing.... and its only foot steps.... people walk all over the sand dunes... just happened we walked in a formation which coincidentally made the word Expedition portal.com that is all.... it was almost gone 30 min later when we left.... all that would have to be done is to leave them exposed for the sun to dry the wet sand... you can tell that in the picture even, it was starting to dry out....

To someone who isn't familiar with sand dunes, that picture is terrifying. Many people believe they are stronger than the wind (isn't that an Eagles song?).

BTW - I'm sad that the title of this thread is now spelled correctly. I thought it was quite funny as Epedition.

frgtwn, all I can say is, thank you for contributing nothing to this thread. All you did was come in here and attack another member. If that is all you are going to do, do everyone a favor and keep your angry opinions to yourself. You based your reply on no facts, experience or knowledge only your bitterness. No one likes or deserves to be talked to like a dog, as you did in your post. It causes conflict on the board, conflict that we can certainly do without. Let us all learn from this.

Anyone seen the giant peace signs on the hills above the Saline Springs in Death Valley? Those don't look like the arey are going anywhere too soon. Sand on the other hand...

Betwen SLC and Wendover on I80 likes the famous Salt Flats, for as long as anyone can remember is has become popular to write things with rocks, bottles and mud on the outlighing mud flats. Some might look at it as vandalism or a blight, others like me find it interesting, a rite of passage for those that first come to see such an amazing place... locals, travelers, city slickers or desert rats... really doesn't matter.

wow..is that a right-hand or left-hand twist you have on yer panties?

I agree with you...if you dont want to adventure and see the sites...stay on the sealed roads....

not everywhere in the world must be deemed a "sacrid landscape"....many places have been saved by mans intervention...

if your upset about the first post...then you would be REALLY upset to discover the fact that worldwide people bury their trash and cut down trees for building supplys and mine coal for fuel for electricity..

oh...and the road to your work...it was once either a prarie field or a forrest..

take it easy....im sure they had some overpaid surveyor in a hummvee or other gas guzzler come out many times and inspect to make sure no habitats were damaged for the rare species before they did that...

would you like some of my snow?? I have several feet I can send you...:coffeedrink:
