I was hoping for a good thread but I guess I'll just have to hijack this one. I carried a 10"x24" piece of expanded steel in the rig for years. A little creative rock stacking up wind from the fire makes a perfect base. I'd just rake coals under the steel as needed. 24 pack of dogs, buns and mustard can make a lot of friends. Just as good is making a quick fire out of sticks then throwing baloney on it. In 15 minutes you have a party around a guy heating Oscar Meyer like a hobo. Fried baloney and mayo on a cold day. Yumm. It beats that soggy subway somebody brought so bring extra. Funny thing was I originally bought the steel and made a grill guard for the Arkansas sticks and brush and threw the scrap piece in the rig as a traction mat on ice.
