Cooking under awning

not exactly the same scenario, but i've had no problems cooking underneath my rear hatch door with a camp stove, and they sit only a few feet apart:

i wouldn't leave a full-flame open burner like that for very long, but with pots/pans on the stove, you really can't feel any heat even a foot and a half above the stove.

That looks like it would be a similar distance as what I've got going on. Thanks for posting that.

Right now I'm still interested in using the Kelty Noah's Tarp 16 seems to be a fraction of the weight/packed size of even the smallest E-Z Up. The Noah's Tarp also gives much more covered area and is cheaper.

Yeah, giving up on an awning at that location now. I would have to duck my head really low to stay under it.

I'm gonna go with something that I can move around and use without the truck if I so choose:

Would have been nice last weekend to have another community awning for everybody. Plus I don't need another piece of farkle hanging on a rack begging to be stolen.

basicly the setup worked in theory but needs a couple of tweaks - mainly i plan to get the noah's tarp as well so that i have a bigger area (my small tarp just wasn't useful) and secondly i need make a little aluminum pole prop to hold up my rear lift-gate as my tarp stretches over it and the wind would start to close it in foul weather (partially due to older weak lift-struts too, but a prop-rod should fix it even in really bad wind).

kelty does also make a "car port" i think it's called that is meant to use your vehicle as one of the supports/sides, but it wasn't quite what i needed. my friend like his busdepot.com awning which is also an affordable non-permanent mount solution with some nice features: http://www.offroadpassport.com/forum/showthread.php?t=864

That Bus depot awning is sweet!
