couple of Colorado Day trips (and a few overnighters too): Pass pictures inside

I can see it now... A build thread in 20 years over on ih8mud of your boys building up dad's old 80 series!:smiley_drive:

Love that thought!

Also, great trip report. Super fun looking time with the family! Props on taking the plunge with the kiddos. We adventure travel and camp with our little one, too. I think it's way more fun with him than it ever was before. Thanks for sharing.

Great trip and pics. Doing Webster/St Johns/Peru creek/Georgia pass on Sunday
Also just finished a 7 day camping trip with the family through the San Juans in Aug. it was great
How did your kids/wife like the RTT? Trying to figure out how to swing that for my rig

Really great post. Love seeing the pics and some info on the passes. How much ground clearance does your LC80 have? Just wondering how a stock 4th Gen 4Runner would do. Any scraping or anything?

Cheers and safe travels!

haven't checked in on this thread in a long time... if Richie is still around.. the RTT worked out well. It is snug for us, but wife and I are both thin. Even though I'm tall, my son was able to sleep x-ways at our heads, and our daughter between us. Wife really liked being up off the ground, particularly with the threat of bears/other wildlife. Daughter kept us awake all the 1st night, but after that she was fine.. she does the same trick in hotels, or any place away from home so, it's not RTT specific. It is NOT a big tent, not sure of the dimensions from memory. I'm looking forward to mounting it back up next year.. and we did find a replacement Mombasas tarp/cover so I don't have the gypsy wagon look anymore. I bought mine locally on CL from a guy in Highlands Ranch.. well used, but fair shape. I didn't want to commit big $ on it, as it's more of a trial.

M.E. Sorry for the delay answering your post. I have no idea how much clearance my truck has.. have not measured, but my tires are only 285/75/16 so, not a huge difference over stock. I don't think I banged the undercarriage once on any of these trips. I tend to be a bit less aggressive when I'm carrying the whole family. We go on scenic trails and passes... not Poughkeepsie Gulch. That said, I don't think there's ANYWHERE I've been in CO that a 4R wouldn't handle. My experience has been to sheepishly discover 2WD cars deep in some area that I felt adventurous taking my truck to. Fuel injection, good tires and brakes and a tank full of gas will take care of about 99% of your problems.

Great pics! Good score on ARB. Do you want to get rid of your old bumper? My sister needs a good front bumper for her 80 and she lives in Colorado Springs!
Let me know if we can take it off your hands.

With a forum name like that, it's hard not to assume you're at Carson. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. We liked it so much we had our daughter there :) .

Bill, I will, but don't consider it likely. Have no plans on getting rid of this truck, but if I do I'll probably sell the ARB separately (or keep it to put on a new-to-me 80) so I'm keeping the original if I need to swap it. If that changes.. I'll post up accordingly.

Started using my callsign as my online identity back in... 2001? (At FSGA). So I've stuck with it for convenience, not because I love it. Was at Carson, PCSd away for 2 years, now back and living near Carson, but work in Centennial (South Denver). Never really loved Carson, but do love Colorado ;) Carson has changed alot since even my time here.. pace of development has been unbelievable.
