Custom Outlander Sherpa II RL

Thanks Aggie. Oddly enough I just placed an order with REI the other day for various camping equipment. Looks like I'll be placing another one when I get back to FL. REI is a great place to shop. We've got one here in Alaska, but I think the closest one to FL is in Atlanta. No matter...I can get one from their website when the time comes or stop off at one of their stores when I hit the road in April.

I received another update from Robert (Outlander Trailers) today regarding my trailer.

Fabrication is almost complete and he is expecting to have all the boxes completed by Wednesday. He hasn't received the parking brake cable system, but it once that arrives, he'll have a few brackets to add to the frame.

This week he will also be fabricating all the mounting brackets for the various systems and equipment. Due to rear seat placement in the tow vehicle, I will be putting the Engel refrigerator in the trailer (not the original plan). I've let Robert know about this and will be sending him the refrigerator this week. Once that arrives he'll get it mounted and figure out the wiring. It's very nice he can be made aware of this change in plans and roll with it.

Once all the above mentioned is done (this week) it will be heading off to be painted and powder coated (projected for next Monday). While it's still far from being complete, I'm VERY happy with the progress and Robert is feeding my anticipation with eye candy photos; posted for you all below.

Coupler, which allows for articulation while off-roading.

In the next few photos you'll see a white object at the top front of the trailer, lying flat. That is a table storage area with the table mounted.

My trailer is on the left. The trailer on the right is sitting on 31" tires. The height of my trailer's frame is 5 feet 4 inches. :Wow1:

Thanks for the comments guys. I think watching it go through the phases of the build is really interesting. It makes me appreciate the effort put into the trailer, as opposed to just seeing the finished product.

So, any idea what it will weigh empty?

Robert (Outlander Trailers) gave me an estimate on how much it will weigh loaded, but I don't recall what it was...1,500 to 2,000 pounds maybe? As for empty, I don't know. Since this is the largest one Robert has built, I'm not sure if he knows either.

When I pick it up I'll probably stop by a weigh station to check the unloaded weight.

I spoke with Robert (Outlander Trailers) tonight. He's estimating the weight of the trailer will be roughly 1200 pounds. This is including the heat/air conditioning unit, generator, roof top tent, spare tire, and other such items that will always be on the trailer.

The dry weight of the trailers he normally builds is approximately 800 pounds in case you were wondering.

More progress has been made in the trailer build and I'll have pictures shortly.

I love it!

Man you have got to be on pins and needles waiting for that beast to be finished. I love looking at all the build threads here on this site. Just keep us up dated I am getting more ideas every day!

Oh yes...I'm SO excited about the trailer. This is going to go perfectly with my Jeep. Glad you like what has been done thus far. There's still much to do, but Robert (Outlander Trailers) is moving at a quick pace.

Speaking of Robert, I spoke with him last night and he has completed building the various boxes. He placed them where they'll go on the trailer and took some pictures for me.

Hopefully the Engel refrigerator will arrive tomorrow so he can build a mount for that. The trailer is expected to go to paint and powder coating Monday. :victory:

Ok you don't realize how big this thing is until you actually stand next to it and see it in person.

Case in point...

Here's my buddy standing next to it, he is 6'2"...

60 Watt Solar Panel?? I heard it combined with the EU1000I Generator produces 1.21 JIGGGAWAAAATS?!? Great Scott! :D

Hahaha...thanks for the eye candy! :D That picture of your friend standing next to it really puts it into perspective. I'll have to get someone to stand next to my Jeep as well (it's over 3.5 feet just to step into the beast).

I got the delivery notification that the Engel refrigerator was delivered to Robert (Outlander Trailers), so it should be going to paint and powder coating any day now. Of course, then he's got to wire everything up, which will take a little while. This is going to look PERFECT towed behind my Jeep (pix below).

A/c?

Really?

I assume it runs off of the Honda 1000i or is there a large/heavy battery bank in addition to the gen?

I'm not the most electrically inclined individual, so I'm not sure of all that is planned for the trailer (Robert - Outlander Trailers - is taking care of that). I do know that I have a Honda generator, the 60w solar panel, and a dual battery set-up as well. I'm going to need to spend half a day with Robert to figure out how everything works.

I don't remember the exact specs on the A/C & heating unit, but it doesn't need much (the heat needs more than the A/C).
