Anybody cut hole in bed and behind seat panel to make long sleep area in Gen 2? Currently sleep diagonally above drawers,
not ideal but works. Thinking remove back seat then cut back firewall below window that extends down to bed Crazy right? I know it would need to be sealed to keep water and dust out. Would 2' x 1' hole effect body rigidly that much. Wondering if anyone has done it without twisting truck body like pretzel. Saw the concept Slate truck had back panel that dropped down to hold full sheet of plywood. sunny SoCal100_0709.JPG

Maybe a different approach?

Years ago we completely removed the back window out of the cab of our single cab K2500 pickup. We then had an upholstery shop design, cut and sew a waterproof fabric “turtleneck” to use as a crawl through portal.

We installed that between the cab of the truck and the front of our camper shell. We’d also removed the front window of the shell.

The fabric turtleneck had enough give to adequately handle the twisting movement between the bed of the truck and the cab on really rough dirt roads.

Perhaps something like that for your Taco could give you the extra leg room you need/want without impacting the integrity of the sheet metal of the bed or cab? It would probably be easier to do and cheaper too. Plus, it would not be a permanent disfigurement of your truck.

A slight change to that idea would be just going to a glass shop and having a custom window for the back of your cab made that had that approximate 2’ x 1’ opening that you mentioned. That might even be something you could configure yourself.

In any event, please share your solution with us…

Full opening rear window in cab and waterproof “boot” to camper shell!

(Optional Hot Blonde accessory included at additional price 😉)

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. My high ARE cap and Taco have sliders. Have 6" memory foam mattress and maybe 3-4 inch below opening. Might need to open both and try sticking my feet in there some time. Extra pillow or blanket would level the transition?

Some good options suggested above.
On a different topic, you seem to have a collection of nice stoves!
What's the 2 burner one? Would you have more pictures or information?
sorry of this derails your thread.
