Cutting a wire which cable and installing.

I used a trick today that I learned from an old timer that has done this for years. I needed to cut a wire winch cable and add an eye for the bolt on a winch drum. Put a small hose clamp on each side of the cut to stop the ends from unraveling. Cut the cable with a chop saw, grinder or hacksaw. Adjust the clamp so 1/4" of cable is showing and weld it. It welded really nice and easy but it destroys the clamp. Grind a flat spot on the weld and weld a nut onto the end of the cable for the winch anchor bolt to go thru. It will break the bolt on the drum before the cable pulls out and the whole trick was easy and neat.
