d1 roof light bar

That's a pretty good price for what it is; wouldn't be too hard to fab a version either.

Beyond ExpO I'd suggest you hop on Discoweb (it's not a gentle place...SEARCH a lot, post a little early) as if you have a question about Discovery's it's likely been asked/answered there quite a bit. Defender Source is a decent resource too; not as much tech but a gentler forum experience than Dweb.

You may want to start looking at events too, folks at Rover Owners Association of Virginia (ROAV) and others. Two to keep in the back of your mind are the Conclave (not a ROAV event) 19-22 Sept at the Cove and the ROAV's Mid Atlantic Rally 4-6 Oct at a TBD location.

Been there, done that. In my experience roof lights cast a LOT of light on your hood, even with a hood blackout. You can forget any driving/euro beam lights for the roof. The best would be pencil beam or fog.
It's just not worth the headache for me. For as often as I use my lights for wheeling at night having a bunch of lights on the roof didn't make sense. The two Hella 4000 100W cornering beams on my front bumper are more than adequate.
If you have a roof rack then I guess putting some fog or pencils up there wouldn't be bad. But I wouldn't buy a bar specifically for roof light, not worth it when bumper mounted lights will accomplish the same thing without the glare. Roof lights also suck in the snow because they illuminate everything right in front of your face making it hard to see. I plow snow in the winter and on my way into work at 2am in a snowstorm I'll usually run just parking lights because its actually easier to see.

Experience?

I had a set of plain old Tractor Supply flood lights up there ... sheesh, at least ten or twelve years ago.

They were set back from the top of the windscreen and were really useful for camp set up / plodding along slowly.

Anything brighter would have been useless due to the reflection on the bonnet.

We moved eight years ago and the rack doesn't fit thru the garage door, so it's been hanging from the ceiling since then.

When I need to carry anything up there, I pop on the Yakima bars and that'll do.

Brett,

Perhaps your problem was that your lights were too low on the roofline because of that bar.

I have no issues with the TReK Discovery I'm driving, even with all 4 high beams on uptop.

The SD rack puts them a few inches higher.

Maybe, IDK. The fog lights were ok, but the Euro beam were terrible. Those 55W lights also didnt throw that much light. In the end the return on investment just wasn't there for me to keep the roof lights.
