I bought my D2 about a month ago and it was missing the bumper, so I figured I'd take the opportunity to try my hand at a little fabrication work. I really liked the tube bumpers for I'd seen on a few D2's, but there was no way I could fork out close to $700 for one since I'm in college. I went out and mocked up how much tube I'd need and headed off to find the local metal shop where I picked up some 2" x .140 wall and 1.75" x .120 wall for just $40 bucks! Also picked up some 1/4" for the brackets. A friend and I hacked away at it with nothing but an angle grinder until we needed to bend the stuff. Luckily, my buddy knew some of the guys over at JD[SUP]2 [/SUP] and they helped us out. They're some great guys with a great product. I think I ended up with around 20 hours and $50 bucks in the bumper. This was my first fab job, so I didn't integrate a winch in it, but that's in line for the next version.
