Daily Driving an FJ40

Who else daily drives their 40s? I do. Have for over a year now.

It's loud, I can't take phone calls or carry open drinks. Whether the top is on, or off, I still get wet when it's raining and sweat when it's hot.

I bought my 40 because I loved it. I drove a very long way to get it. It was cheap, and it ran.

I still love her.

But I think she knows I lust after other 40s.. hmm.

I wanted to start a 40 thread, because having owned an 80, growing up with 60s, and now owning a 40. It is my favorite Land Cruiser ever.

I guess it doesn't jive with the purpose of this forum, but who else loves the 40s more than the rest?

Mine isn't my only DD but I drive it almost every day nevertheless, just because I love driving it. Nothing on four wheels has ever put a smile on my face like my 40. I've driven it to work in the oil field, and to southern Utah and back. I'd drive it anywhere without a second thought.

My '65 is not a DD but I love driving it every chance I get.

Got the top in storage...love the wind "in my face"...this Cruiser has the vent along the windshield. I enjoy the 40 much more than my 80.

Too hot down here to DD this plus the "three on the tree" is no fun in traffic.

Just hearing the F motor fire up puts a smile on my face.

Twincruiser, I live about 6 hours north of you. My top is in storage right now too. I hate the look of a 40 without a hard top but Florida demands it!

Quite possibly my favorite cruiser I've ever laid eyes on! I remember commenting on that truck in the picture thread.

Thanks for the kind words. I wish a previous owner hadn't cut the tub over the rear wheels. It's far from perfect but it's a good solid rust-free truck and does what I want it to well.

I used to daily drive my '72 350 V8 powered FJ40 here in MN. Used to have to scrape the inside of the windows to get clear them so I could see on cold days. It was fun, but I like my LR3 too.

1911's Cruiser sure is purty.

jmdjax, I guess you're in Jax.

Down here in So. FL, there are not too many 40s running around.

I was in St. Augustine last 4th of July and saw a bunch there, driving on the beach.
Made me wish I had my 40 with me.

Jon Hanson's rig is sweet...wow, driving a 40 for 30 years...can't beat that!!

Not a 100% daily driver, but probably 3-4 days a week. Here's a shot of me having lunch out of it this last week by Mirimac and Monitor in Moab...Monitor.JPG

Sorry the picture is sideways-they are normal on my desktop, but when I download them here they always end up wonky. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, or how to change it...

Mine is a 69 with chevy 350 and I have been daily driving mine since Jan. I used to have 4.10 gears but with the SM420 gearing it would drive very high on the RPM range. I switched to 3.75 in January and it drives between 1800 to 2800 range.

The best part is that with diesel prices soaring, I am saving $40 a week on gas by not driving my F250.

Little by little I have been adding little things that make it more convenient to drive but over all I love all the compliments I get when I drive it.

I have a stack of business cards from guys that leave them on my window asking to sell it to them.

Here is a pic I took recently

Pokey,
Are those FJcruiser rims?
Did you have to use spacers to use them?

I have been trying to find some to use but dont want to have to use spacers. I like how they look on 40s.

Daily drove this one for 8+ years. 60+miles/day commute, always driven to and from monthly trail rides. Loved every minute of it and still kick myself for selling back in 2004.

Adam, that's one of my favorite 40s of all time.

I DD my 40 for alot of years, put about 60k miles on it. A couple years back I decided it would be better if I started putting miles on my other junk instead. I wouldn't be afraid of jumping in the 40 today and driving anywhere in the lower 48 still.
