Cool blog. I'm going to read the whole trip! How's mosquito condition during the time you were there?

I was warned about the mosquitoes beforehand so I was somewhat prepared for them. The worse time seems to be from mid June through July though it does vary depending on temperature and wind etc.... The interior is generally worse and locals say that caribou can lose pints of blood per day to mosquitoes. DEET is of course quite effective but I hate using it because it is so toxic and opted for a net when they were really bad instead. That said I received about 30 bites on one hand while I was at the McNeil River during a hatching day while photographing bears. At least they don't carry malaria! And another tidbit for those (like me) who always wondered if mosquitoes have any constructive purpose in life - they help to pollinate blueberries!

Yes, Christo & team do great work; I've been known to drop a mortgage payment or two off there in Golden.

It would be nice here to have a thread on your LC200 with an overwhelming amount of pics as I know no one (?) has posted yet here on that. :)

Steve,
Thanks for the information. Coming from Taiwan, I know too well about mosquitoes. It's one thing that I felt so blessed about living in SF Bay Area, there is very little mosquito at my place.
30 bites on one hand I can only imagine how itchy that was..... :Wow1: I don't like DEET either and only use it as last resort. I've been using Coghlan's Mosquito Coil around camp, http://www.rei.com/product/407032, it works pretty well on the west coast, not sure if it can fend off the mosquitoes army up there.
Thanks again posting the blog the pics of the bears at McNeil River is amazing!

Steve, I accidentally deleted your entire thread this morning trying to get rid of a spam post. My apologies.

Great trip report. Roseann and I loved the Dempster Highway.

OH! :hehe:

Man, I felt so guilty, I thought it was my fault!

Steve, I really liked your writeup re: culture, and the links.

I don't suppose you had the opportunity to experience the Fly By Night Club while you were there :D...or are they finally, officially out of business? They've been going out of business in the same location for the last couple decades or so, so it's hard to tell ;).

Hope to see you around, I'm up the road in Superior.
