Otherwise known as Cam Cans.
These were featured at the SEMA show in Las Vegas yesterweek, and I first saw them in the SEMA thread on this site..

They are suppose to fit both Toyota and Jeep spare tires.
You can use just one, or put on two cans.
They are 2.5 gallons each.

Info from Daystar.
Daystar - Driven by Design

I plan on getting a few of these to try out if I can locate where/when to buy them.

I gave up on the Expedition One slim jerry cans they came out with a few years back, as I wrote them several times for info, and I never got a response from them on their spare tire mount.
Their cans are the same as those slim Rotopax ones.

I wrote Daystar earlier this morning, and they got back to me a little bit ago with info on when they will become available.
Good morning Corey,
We are just getting settled in after the SEMA Show.
We are sheduled to start shipping the Green and Blue Can Cam kits December 1st. (Note: the Green Cans are made from the same Material as the RED. The blue are designed for carrying Water)
We are waiting for our CARB Certificate on the RED Gas Cans. It looks like they will be sihpping in the USA around April.
We will be shipping the Red Can Cams outside the country (i.e. Canada), so I will let you know who is going to be stocking them.
I will get back to you with a list of dealers in Washington.
4 Wheel Parts has two locations that will be stocking them.

Here is a list of stores that stock Daystar Products. Keep in mind, they will not have the Can Cam Kits yet, since we won't be shipping them until after Deceber 1st.
Compeitition Specialties and Accord Distributors are two of our stocking warehouses in Washington. They might have a larger list of dealers in Washington as well.
I will get back to you with the list of guys in Canada that will be stocking them.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

So it looks like the blue and green ones will be available less than a month from now.
I wrote back to see if the green ones can be used for water too, I do not know that for sure since the material is the same as the red fuel can.
PS,
Yes the Green Cans can be used for water as well as solvents and fuel.

Scratch the green ones for water.
If you are going to use these for potable or drinking water, you must use the blue ones.

The green and red ones will not work for water.

Why do you have to use the blues ones? Are they a different plastic? If not, I'm not concerned about getting the OD can has potable water. My Scepters are tan and green for water. Sometimes I think manufactures says only use Blue, or designed for Water just to cover the legal issues.

This is the quote I got from my last communication with them:
Hi Corey,
Thanks for the posting on the website.
I was just informed that the only can that is specifically designed for Potable Water is the Blue Can.
The Green and Red cans are made from a different material to withstand Fuel and Solvents and has a chemical in the material that can potentially pollute the drinking water.

Does anyone have any information on how the Can Cam Kit is mounted to the spare tire? I see on the Daystar website there is a bracket that is (appears) mounted to the spare wheel. I am just curious if there is the possibility of damage to the wheel, or if the mounting bracket extends far enough so as to not make contact with the wheel? I am looking for a fuel storage system for my TJ, and I think this may work perfect, so as long as my painted wheels are not scratched all to hell? Anybody seen this in person yet?

Thanks,

I looked at it briefly last week at SEMA and it appeared that at least three threaded standoffs/couplers thread onto the lugs of your spare tire mount (I believe they replace the lug nuts) and then the bracket attaches to the threaded couplers. There was adequate space between the bracket and the wheel to avoid any painted wheel damage.

The local warehouse by me that will be stocking these first for distribution to stores just emailed me, and he will have them in stock end of December.

Thanks for your help. I have been looking for a fuel/carrier option similiar to what Daystar has now introduced. However, i don't want to chance damaging my painted AEV wheels (which are no longer made). Looks like this will work! Thanks again.

The Can Cam will mount to the spare tire lugs. It will work for Jeep and FJ bolt pattern. I'd guess it will work on early bronco as well. For the FJ, we measured clearance off my FJ with backup camera. So, for those wondering it will fit FJs with backup camera and without. The mounting plate is shaped much like the can with three cams on it locking the can in place. Aux mounts can be purchased so you can store it at home. I've locked them in place myself and can assure you it's a solid mount. I'll be doing a full review of them soon.

Yeah I dont like hanging my 33x10.5 off my rear door, let alone adding more weight. Would be fine on a swing away carrier though

Anyone else think that's a lot of weight to hang off a spare tire carrier?

I have been looking for a way to carry fuel without upgrading the oversized spare tire carrier I have now. I have looked at the traditional 5 gallon Jerry Cans and have come to the realization that they are too heavy for my set up. The new Daystar Can Cam's hold 2.5 gallons, so by my math that would be approx. 20 pounds when filled?????

My spare tire carrier is rated for a 35" tire, but has 33's now. So I am thinking for my use the weight won't be an issue.

This system seems to have been designed for the FJ, Jeep crowd for those who don't have full on aftermarket bumpers/spare tire carriers but need to carry a little extra insurance with them on day trips. I don't see the weight as a problem with the 2.5 gallon capacity. A similiar set-up with a 5 gal. capacity or more, would be pushing the limits.

Judging by the pictures, if you get a flat you will need to unbolt the mount plate from the mounting studs, then unbolt the mounting studs from the spare....
