Death Valley Nov 2012 in B&W. Day 2.

After spending a chilly night (35 degrees) at Homestake I headed down the pass to Saline Valley. The road was a little tricky in places but all-in-all enjoyable. Saline Valley Rd was littered with car parts along the way...the washboard roads can be brutal! Artwork lets you know you're getting close to the springs and furry eared burros are the greeting committee (at least they are fully clothed!). Yikes!

How was Lippencot? I'll be out that way with my family in mid-December and will have a full-size 2wd pickup along with us. Wondering if I can take the Lippencot route in/out to The Racetrack.

Years ago, my friend and Saline Valley regular Chili Bob put up a set of "emergency telephones" along Saline Valley Road. Very official-looking posts, signs, and boxes.

When you opened up the box, you found... a tin can with a string attached:ylsmoke:

Thanks! It was a great trip and btw...sorry the Baja Whale trip didn't happen last spring...hopefully in the future.

Each year on our DV trip there seems to be at least 1 person with a 2wd truck. We've gotten a new 2wd Tundra, A 2wd Jeep Liberty and a first gen tacoma prerunner up with no issues.
Add weight to the bed of the truck and have a tow strap handy to keep the 2wd trucks from having a bunch of wheel spin.
Best idea is to head down it instead of up, then no assistance would be needed.

Nice trip ! Your FJ / trailer combo looks familiar. Were you the guy I spent a bunch of time talking to at the KOA after the FJ Summit last year ?

Good point...down would be doable. Up too if you have enough of a load in the bed.
