And a decent rust free '87 Classic is like gold dust!

IMHO the '87 is the best year; with hairy non electric seats, leccy windows and a 2.5TD (VM) that needs to be taken out and replaced with a 200Tdi

U can find 100% rust free classics in west cost all day long. I have 1990 almost brand new cond. I am gonna give it as agift to my doctor friend. She loves old rovers
I know ahe is gonna keep her much better than i do ;)

Tnx.for the heads up on 87 model. I looking forward to it.even tho its gonna.be pain in the $$$ to drive right hand drive stick shift. Haha but its kinda cool

a. few points, the frames are very different , the only commonality being construction. All rovers since series types are coil front and rear, solid(beam axle) with fully floating hubs.
The RRC apart from Vogue lse are coils . The 110 and 130 have bigger diameter coils at rear , the 130 has secondary coils inside rear main coils. The 90 has rover style diffs front and rear as has RRC, the 110 and 130 had rover type front (apart from some ex mil ) and as mentioned salisbury (Dana) at rear . Bigger and much stronger. RRC with VM avoid PITA . Early 90 and 110 (84-about 88/89) badged 90 or 110 not dfeneder had higher gage alluminium in body panels . You need to be ultra careful buying ex UK as salting on winter roads can cause quite severe corrosion problems. Also some ex mil vehicles did sea wading !! V8 petrol only in early 110 and a very samll number 90 , later 90 V8 auto were special edition and therfore V expensive. HTSH

how does the wind sheld come down on defender? i am guessing the roof has to come out right? are all of them the same? way

NAS trucks were not really designed to fold, as there is a fixed attachment vs. the typical hinged set-up. Easy to swap out, and yes- even the ROW spec trucks need the top off to fold the windscreen. There are two 'pins' on the bottom edge that prevent it from folding with the top affixed.

ok thats fine so summer time it can be driven as cabrio :) 87 is the year to stick with, ;)

I take mine off completely rather than folding it down, as that is one less thing to fret about.

have u ever imported a car before? how does it work, lets say it arives to USA can we drive home and then to the paper work or conversion? what do i need to change on that 87 defender to make it usa DOT pass.?

Several. No changes needed as that is the whole jest of the 25 year rule. I would suggest contacting Doug who posted on my 130 thread, Dividing Creek, as he is the go to man, and can clear it for you at customs.
