I have not seen any cheap Defenders anywhere in the USA that were in awesome condition. I have seen cheap junkers.
The reason I purchased my H1 Hummer is because it was $20,000 less expensive than a much older Defender 110.
Even in Australia, it was hard to find a cheap Defender that was ready for the outback. If you got something cheap, you would have to put lots of money into it to get it ready for expeditionary travel.
I purchased Defenders in Australia, New Zealand, and Saudi Arabia outside the USA, and a good one that is ready to go on an expedition costs a lot of money.
If Land Rover brought a real Defender 110 into the USA, I think it would sell for more than $50,000. With that perspective, I would look at prospective purchases from the point of view of what kind of shape it is in, and what you plan to do with it. If you are going to drive around the world, you will want a vehicle that is in top notch shape, and it is going to cost real money.
