Destination A/T

Question for you all. Does anyone run the Destination A/T's from Firestone? I can get a good deal on a set of 5 for my 2011 Taco AC. It is currently stock, but within the next couple months should be sporting a Cap, Sliders and an OME suspension (still tossing around 885 or 886). Once I get started I'll add a build thread, right now I'm just trying to get a plan in place.

I'll mostly be doing light off road, FS Roads, established trails. I'm mostly concerned with wet weather driving and light snow abilities, being in the NW, that about sums up our weather. It's a part time DD and also my camping/road trip rig.

I am a bit concerned about the load rating on them, but I'm not usre that is a factor with my intended use

Thanks,
Cindy

I've had good luck with the Destination A/Ts in the past but I would encourage you to look at the Hankook ATMs...I have them on both my DD (2005 Tacoma) and my hauler (GMC 3500)...and the wet weather/snow performance is superb...not so great in sticky mud

I have these on my 2003 Tahoe 4x4 in 265/75/16 the work great in rain or in snow, I've taken mine through 3 Pagosa Springs 36" in 2 days snow storms and rarely put it in 4wd. Mostly a great all around tire, there was a discussion about these on the T4R forum and how they are very under rated as an all-terrain tire.

I have the same size and agree with the above 100%.

Ash has been running them for a while, and has yet to have a problem if memory serves. He is converting this sceptic...

Thanks for the input everyone, they seemed like a good product at a good price. However since I'm just getting started in this, thought I'd come here for some advice.

I hope to during the summer hit some of the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (WABDR). Not sure I can get ehough time off to do the entire run, but I should be able to do a few sections once I get better shoes on her.

Thanks again,
Cindy

I've been running the stock size on my wife's 3gen for about 4 years now. They are coming to the end of their life and have been a good AT. They're much nicer on the hwy than the previous BFG AT and better in the rain by far. I'm coming to the wear bars and will be looking to replace them soon. They are just now getting slick in the rain but that's to be expected this late in life. They've been through Oklahoma muddy roads and Kentucky, Tenn. fire service roads and trails just fine for a mild AT.

I'm open to other tires but haven't found a tire that blows this one away for a general all purpose DD tire, for the wife's 4runner.

Okay, so to throw a wrench into things, the Revo2's are on sale and of course this is what the shop recommends. Would cost me $120 to upgrade, and I get a $100 rebate. They don't appear as off road capable, but I can get them in an E rated tire (not sure if that is really a concern), even with the truck loaded up, that may be more tire than I need and will give a stiffer ride. What rated tire do most of you use?

The rig will be run about 70% on road and 30% off. But in that off road time it could be FS road, desert, sand, snow, or trail. Not planning on any rock crawling or deep mud, but this is the NW, we get rain, and things get muddy.

I think the destinations are the way to go, and will meet the versatility of driving I’ll be doing. Thoughts, comments, I’m open to recommendations.

Thanks all,
Cindy

I went with the Revos...

Cindy,

I had to make a choice between the Destination A/Ts and the Bridgestone Dueler Revos a while ago. According to Firestone, the Revos have a little bit more 'technology' to them when compared to the Destination A/Ts. I have about 20k on them right now, and they are exceptional tires. I'll go with the Revo2s next time. If you are anywhere around a Costco warehouse, they are $130 per tire with $70 off a set of four...:smiley_drive:

BWJ,

Any shortcommings you have found to them? And what load rating are you using? They do get good ratings, but seem to be sleepers as far as looks. They don't look it, but seem to do the job well. May have to put some real consideration into them.

Checked at Costco, up here they want $224 a tire... $190 a tire for the BFG AT's

Thanks again,
Cindy

For what it's worth, I had the Destination M/T's and absolutely loved them. I got 50,000 miles out of them and would have replaced them with another set, but they where on back order until an undetermined amount of time.

OTR,

That is the interesting part, one shop is telling me they can't get them. The shop the next town over says he will have 4 in on Thursday, and can get one for my spare in about 10 days. If they really do get them in, I'll go take a look after work and get my name on them if I can.

They quoted me $165 a tire, $920 out the door with 5.

I have put about 3000 miles on the Destination A/T's I put on my van. They were highly rated and came recommended with all the research I did. So far I have been pleased. I like their on-road manners and they handled 2-3 feet of snow this winter without issue.

Cooper Discoverer S/T. Bangin tire. I paid a total of $500 out the door for 4 tires. Have the option of them being studded if need be. Superb rubber.
