Yup-I'm in. Joined group a looong time ago. Just getting back in action with 2011 lr4. Not a big fan of Warn-recent quality issues. Any other winches that will fit in the 9500# range?

What are these quality issues you speak of with Warn? I run the Warn 9.5 XP and have never experienced s single issue with it. The 9.5 XP IMO is the absolute best winch for the LR3....Land Rover even spec'ed this winch in the factory winch option. The rule of thumb is to never never skimp on recovery equipment.

Also keep in mind the Superwinch are made in China, where as the Warn 9.5 XP is made in the USA.

Thanks for the recommendation of the Tigershark. I will look into it, especially if the Devon deal goes through. The Warn issues? I've owned and used several over many years off-pavement driving in this country and a few others. Most recent was a 2006 Power Wagon. Jamming, gear failures, etc. A good friend of mine owns a couple of towing companies and about a year or so ago a Warn rep convinced him to switch from Ramsey to their, i believe, commercial series winches. Far stronger, more reliable, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, etc. Well, after numerous failures that did not occur with the Ramsey's, he bit the bullet and switched back. He stated that trying to get assistance from Warn was like yelling into a black hole. This may have also been true of Ramsey, but he never had to call them for repairs. Regular maintenance advice yes, repairs no.

Regarding that LR has spec'ed Warn for use implies they did it because Warn has a sterling reputation for reliability and customer service. This may or may not be true, depending on who you ask. I'd like to believe LR has our best interests at heart and would only associate with best companies, etc., but i've been to a lot of business "spec'ing meetings" of one type or another and it doesn't always result in the best coming out the winner. "Best" is frequently defined as who can provide the most business profits.

^ I have a custom one-off flush mount OEM winch system on my rover/lr3. We wanted to source a tray from Warn and they were strict and intractible with the indy shop that was doing the custom install. They would not sell the winch tray we needed that is a part of the LR3 winch KIT that Land Rover offers. I understood the contractual issues with providing their product/winch package to Land Rover but you're talking about a $5,000 KIT that is probably sitting on a shelf somewhere collecting dust. All we needed was the winch tray or some form/template and they wouldn't help us so we went a different route and that was that. I'm sure they are nice products but it was as said above, like yelling into a black hole. I decided since then to buy from other manufacturers.

This thread seems to have wound down without a resolution regarding the Devon group buy. i contacted Justin at Lucky8 and he confirmed no action from the group. Sooo, I've decided to go it alone and have requested he give me the best price for a single purchase, since i am a member of the Portal. I'm still waiting. However, racehorse observer noted he did a one off. I'm interested to find out more, if possible, before I pull the trigger on Devon. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi. My setup isn't a hidden winch.Hidden winches look great. In my case I wanted access to the winch and some front end protection without dropping 200lbs. of steel bumper on the front end. I also liked the look of the OEM winch/bumper setup. My setup does not have the warn arms that extend out in front of the vehicle, limiting approach that the warn stock system for land rover does. Here are some photos. PM if you have questions so I don't bog up the thread. The work was done by Gordon at Inland Rovers in SoCal. It's a one-off (so far).RoverAnza.jpgroverskid2.jpgroverskid1.jpg
