Diesel, Ford, Frame Flex, maybe other stuff

dzzz

A few things I've found in my research for building on a ford F550 cab chassis.

For F series are exported to countries without low sulphur fuel by a computer change and removal of the particulate filter. Devices that make the right computer change to run high sulphur can apparently be purchased on the internet. If one gets caught using this device in the U.S. its a $10K fine. But all is not lost for those wishing to take a low sulper only diesel to "high sulphur" countries.

A Ford F550 with a 19.5K GVW package is the lowest flexing frame F series. I saw one today and it has doubled C frame until the rear axle. The F550 with a 17.5K GVW has a normal C frame.

The current navistar diesel will be replace by a ford UK diesel on 1/1/10.

The current diesel does not have a P type alternator and is internally regulated. That means it needs to be switched out for optimum deep cycle battery charging.

Applying current incentives, invoice less $4500 is about where these trucks sell at with a factory order. For a crew cab 4x4 F550 that's about $10,000 under sticker.

Do you have any more information on a new Ford running high sulfur fuel? One thing that will limit a new truck in the future for me is not being able to run fuel south of the border through it.

Thanks

You should be able to get twice that off of sticker. Mine list MSRP for $54890. I had it delivered from TX for $38 including tax. But it was only a F450. One dealer had a F550 but only an XL package. The original buyer backed out and they wanted $30 with tax included. GF would not stand for the XL package.

Cool. I need to factory order so I don't know if that makes a difference. Unless I want a white 550 with vinyl seats. I do want the sleeved frame upgrade too. I'm never going to find that setup except on a dump truck.
