DII Brakes

My disco is going to need brake pads soon and while I've done this job plenty of times on other vehicles, I've read lots of stories about the three amigos making an apperance after a home brake job. How can I avoid this? Any tips etc would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I've done mine plenty of times with no issues. I do use brake "quieter" but I'm not sure that helps with vibrations. I always order from Will, he has a great price on brake pads.

I know that isn't good breaking news, but I'v just never had any problems.

Thanks man, guess they are simple like any other disc brake replacement right? Will a C-clamp work to push the piston back in or are they the screw type?

I also pull brake fluid out with a turkey baster so it dosen't overflow when I compress the caliber and put in the new, thicker, brake pads....then top it off at the end.

Did my brakes twice on my D2. OEM pads with Brembo Rotors the first time and EBC 7000 the second time. EBCs weren't bed in all that well and made a horrible noise for the first 3000mi or so. After that I loved them, but 3-amigos were present the same between the two sets. OEM were quieter.

Did your brake job somehow cause the 3-amigos?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how using a certain kind of brake pad would make the car throw these faults, I have used numerous pads, and not once have had the "3 AMIGOS".

last set I used was FERODO I believe.

Some aftermarket pads and/or rotors can cause a wheel speed sensor erratic code to be set. The material causes a resonance which throws the speed signal off enough tos et a code. We used to run into this a lot several years ago but I think most quality aftermarket companies have addressed this. I have always had the best luck with noise and operation with OEM. :)

I recently had to do brakes on my D2. The fronts started squealing some and each time the boys would pop up. There was still plenty of material on the pads, but they were just noisy. At least on my truck noisy brakes will trigger the amigos. I replaced with Wagner pads and no problems since.
