Dinosaur National Monument & Fantasy Canyon

Love Dinosaur National Park. Thanks to the Sierra Club for stopping the dam that was planned for it back in the 60's. It's tough to get a permit to run the rivers.

I have worked there a few years back for a fire season and suggest taking a look at the other side of the park as well. I was stationed at Gates of Lodore up by Browns Park Co. our local groceries came out of Rock Springs, Wy.
Lots of great country all around the park including the Flaming Gorge area.

It's on my to-do list....I can only fit so much into a weekend!

Thanks for the trip report. I only know the park from the river. Great place! Here's a shot taken from now-defunct air shuttle from Vernal to the Lodore put in. It's the confluence of the Green (right) and Yampa (left). Ironically, the Green was running red after an upstream flashflood.

Great Picture. I've flown that air shuttle. It's too bad its not operational anymore because it gave great views of the rivers.

Randy, you continue to be my hero. While the rest of us are making gear lists, spares lists, gear purchases, arguing the merits of $140 billet shackle receivers and generally over preparing for trips we’re not taking frequently enough; you are roaming the North America. Thanks for another stellar report and allowing us to travel vicariously through you….now back to my lists.

After leaving Dinosaur National Monument and a quick stop in Vernal we headed south on our way home. However, we did have one more stopped planned at Fantasy Canyon along the way. This was a cool area, however we ended up getting there at a bad time.....most of the photos I took were shooting into the sun, so they didn;t turn out as well as I would have liked. We will have to head back another time to get some better shots. Here's some of the better ones I got....

After leaving Fantasy Canyon we headed east to Bonanza, UT where we turned south and made our way home through the Book Cliffs and staying off the pavement. We made a quick stop at the old townsite of Dragon along the way.
