Couple of questions.
What would be a guess as to how much you spent in one year of travel or for the year and a half that you were gone? Just trying to figure what it will cost the wife and I for a similar trip? I will be retiring before we start the trip so the budget will not be that big of an issue but still wondering?
Second question, In your opinion what would be the pro's and con's of shipping to Argentina and driving North VS heading South and shipping in the end?
Keep up the good work, love the videos.....
We'll do a more detailed video, but we estimated $25k a year before we left and it was actually less. One month would be $850 and the next would be $2,000.
It depended on the country, how much we drove, fuel costs etc. #1 cost by far was fuel.
It also depends on you and how you travel. We almost never paid for camping, cooked almost all meals at the truck and avoided most tourist areas. On the other hand we moved camp almost every day increasing our fuel costs.
We have friends who rarely move camp, but love eating out and eating well who say food is their #1 expense by far. Also, we know folks who considered this a one time trip before heading home and so they did everything they could spending tens of thousands more on side trips.
So, anywhere from $15k to 100k. ? It's quite a range.
No big changes going north vs south except that some folks we've met who start with the most first world countries like Chile really get frustrated when they hit the less developed countries and their quirks. Do it whatever direction you've always dreamt it going. I admit we always pictured hitting the southern tip as the "end."
