Discovery interior sleeping...

Vague question I know but is it possible to fold the rear seats flat in a Disco I or II so as to sleep inside or do they need to be removed...I am currently looking for either a low mileage I or II but would like the option of sleeping inside...
Thanks:coffeedrink:

The rear seats flip and fold forward into the foot well so not flat. The rear area of a DI would be pretty tight with the rear seat in place-the DII is bigger but I don't know by how much. The best solution would be to take the seats out and build a platform to cover the foot well and make a flat surface. The raised roof in the rear of a Disco does offer a lot of headroom so you could even build a full length platform with storage drawers.

The D-II is 10" longer all in the rear storage area- we always removed the seats, and made a cover over the second row footwells- makes great storage area for hilift, axles, etc. With the seats removed it is near perfect for two. A D-I not so much

You can get about 6.5 feet out of a D2 with the front seats moved all the way forward, you'd have to remove the rear seats and stuff/cover the rear footwell though (a duffel bag of clothes and a pair of boots work well). The carpet is about an inch-and-a-half thick so its a pretty comfy nights sleep with just a sleeping bag.

Alternately, you can build a short drawer/platform for the cargo area, then fold the rear seats down (but not forward) and get about the same amount of space with a little less headroom (still about the same as the average dome tent).

Thanks...this is exactly the information I was looking for. Heading down the road tomorrow to PHX to look at a couple DIIs...

For a few days in college, between apartments, I stuffed a twin-sized futon mattress in the back of my '96 D1. With the seats all the way forward, as mentioned, and the rear sets folded as flat as possible it fit very, very well and I was able to sleep in total comfort (i.e. stretched out, normal sleeping position.) The great headroom in a Disco's cabin makes it waay more comfortable.

I'm 6'2" or 74"

My wife and I slept in the back of my DII camping once, length wise it wasnt bad but def too narrow for two people. This was with the rear seats fully removied.

Its for sale btw... :)
