DIY alternatives to BedRug soft carpet mat in bed??

I haven't been on this forum in a while but I just ordered a Z Series top for my 2008 Ext cab Silverado. Would love to put some sort of soft mat or carpet in the bed but not crazy on spending $150 for just the BedRug mat although it looks nice. Oh, and I'm only referring to covering the bed floor, not the sides.

Do you guys have any DIY ideas? Hell I think a scrap piece of carpet wound work but what should I use under it for the cushioning?

Any help would be great.

carpet pad?

if you mean to mitigate the corrugations in the bed floor, maybe a sheet of plywood?

but ... we all know every time you get down, you'll be comparing the solution to the bedrug.

cry once, and all that...

Personally, I think the BedRug mat is well worth the price for the quality that you get. You just can't hardly beat it. Ron

Try to find one used. I got one for $20! I love it. Super easy to clean and easy to squeeze the water out of it.

Doesn't anybody ever build anything for themselves anymore? Seems it's always name-brand stuff at Bro prices.

Sheet of 1/2"x4'x8' OSB - $9

Harbor Freight 'Fatigue Mat' foam squares - $10/16sq', call it $20

Indoor/Outdoor carpet in many varieties, ~$1.50sq' off the roll, call it $50
OR
a 6'x8' ready made indoor/outdoor carpet square for <$20.

$10 for sundry caulk, carpet tacks, carpet knife blades.

Get fancy and wrap the OSB in a 2mil tarp ($6, 9'x15') if you're worried about water.

That's $70-100 and a result that's as nice as you care to make it. Or you can pay $450 for the Bro-rug.

Building stuff is easy, just takes a little time and practical ability with basic tools.

Here's a little wood / foam / upholstery project from earlier this year

wut? It's easy. People just have to try. Think outside the (X-)Box. Get dirty. Use some tools.

/$450 for a damned bed carpet

If you want something that's easy to remove I would think just taking a piece of plywood of the appropriate size, put thin padding on it and then cover with indoor/outdoor carpeting. Shouldn't be more than $30 - $40 depending on what kind of plywood you use. That would also have the virtue of not being able to slide around inside your vehicle.

I actually have plywood under my bed rug to install tie downs. E tracks.
