DIY Camper Build "Ambition 2"

Soon, (Over the next couple months) I will be building a Slide in Camper. I'm going to call it "Ambition 2". All of the dimensions will be based on a 2022 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition.

Here are some preliminary drawings. 8 Foot bed and 2-foot overhang. More or less


Offset door to make space for a bathroom on the passenger side


Bed up front but not on the overhang. Fridge then Bathroom


Driver side has a sink, stove, counter the and the bed. The overhang is for looks and storage but not sleeping.


Wheel wells will be filled in in the back to provide more room. Even though it will be more difficult.

Looks cool, curious why you dont rip the bed off and make it a flatbed? Look at all that wasted space and effort building to a stock bed shape.

I wish but i need the truck as a truck more than I need it as a camper. For now, at least.

Yea, I will be using a composite core with no frame and with fiberglass as a shell.

I decided to test my design by making a small model. Here are most of the pieces cut out. Next, I will fiberglass the model. This is the first-time fiber-glassing so the practice is welcome. Again, Its 1/8 Size.

Thanks! That’s what I need to hear at this stage to keep the motivation going. I had a mishap with measuring the epoxy for my model so I have to start over again. I did not realize that the different speed hardeners also mixed at different ratios.

That’s a good idea. I might do that. I’ll work on an idea. I was considering the over cab section having side access up at the very front. It would provide 8 feet of storage and although a tad difficult to access be very useful.

I completely agree with you. I'm a little torn on this. Here are my thoughts. Any opinions are appreciated.

1. The over-cab section strength is unknown. Since I will not have any frame, I'm guessing a long overhang may pose a problem at the seams, especially with people sleeping there.
2. If I sleep in the over-cab section, it needs to be taller. I would like to keep the height down as much as possible. Not using it for sleeping gives me a 12-18 inch shorter unit overall.
3. I always need storage, and over the cab gives me a lot of internal and maybe some external if I partition it.

Your reasoning seems sound. You can address any of those items in other ways but you seem to have more reasons not to change.
