I found this article really interesting. I'm not educated enough to validate the author's theory but I did use a basic hybrid system as described without issue for about 3 months.

I’ve been drinking the Will Prowse kool aid and was going to suggest the Overkill BMS… but I know very little about LiFePO… I got scared and ended up going prebuilt.

I think his youtube channel is interesting, but I doubt he has any formal Electrical Engineering background.

I think you’re right, but I appreciate his mix of data and tinkering.

And degrees are helpful, but they aren’t everything… (engineering degree collecting dust over here ?)
