DIY Modular Roof Rack

I just posted these pics on another thread but this was my solution for a sleeping platform with rear seats. I built a box to house camping gear that's just tall enough to lay a couple pieces of plywood level on the seat backs. I built a ledge for the plywood to rest on and then they cut big enough they can't come off of the ledge. Then I bought a mattress from exprite that's made for the Jeep. My girls really like it and it makes @ six feet of length with the front seats all the way up. The lid is super thin plywood and the box multiple pieces so that it could (theoretically) collapse in a rear end collision. The door release idea is genius! I'll definitely look into that.

Very nice. Good plan with the thin plywood. The inside opening really makes a big difference.
