DIY storage systems

One job I want to make a start on sooner rather than later is the layout and construction of a storage system for the back of the 80. This will be in the form of a rear draw unit replacing the third row seats and a fridge/freezer replacing one of the second row seats.

My question is, what is the best material for the job, in terms of durability vs. weight vs. cost? MDF seems to be the obvious option as it is easy to work with, however it is not always that durable and can soon get pretty heavy. So, any other suggestions?

Also, any photo's/threads of your own builds would be welcome!

Cheers

I use a combination of two materials: pvc foam for boxes and aluminum for skeleton.
My luggage compartment isn`t very big 0,6x1.1m, but weight - 12kg only.

I used 1/2" birch for the drawers and top panel. I made a steel tubing Skelton and wrapped the outside in aluminum sheet metal

It's not super light but it's not bad, certainly less than the third row seat were and plenty sturdy.

If I could do again I would use aluminum tubing instead of steel (used steel for ease of welding),
