Truck is looking great Dave. I too had a problem with the weight of the rear bumper, and in my opinion there isn't a good "over the counter" solution. I would wait until the bumper is back from the powder coater, load your truck with all your gear, and take it to National Spring ( as someone else mentioned) They will custom build rear springs for your truck to accomodate your exact weight and lift requirements, you will also be able to unload your equipment (camping gear) at National so they build the overload springs properly as well. It is going to be the only way to retain a good ride whether loaded with gear or daily driving. National Spring does amazing work and it will probably only take them about 4 hours or so. They did mine while I waited and charged $600. Good luck to you and congrats on all the great looking work on the truck.

Problem Solved

As I attempted to leave the hardware store... the truck would not go into reverse... automatic tranny 05 Tacoma.

So, me being me, I popped off the little cover and manually bypassed the lockout and drove home.

While driving, I notice the check engine light is on as well as the airbag light... and the dash indicator for which gear you are in is not lit... and I have no reverse lights or turn signals...

Checked the fuses today and...

The IG1 Fuse was blown (10 amp fuse located inside fuse box under dash).

Replaced fuse, problem solved!

Posting this JIC this happens to any of you out there! :)

05+ Tacoma Maintenance Required Light: How to Reset It

The Maintenance Required Light will come on when you near the normal 5,000 mile service interval (around 4,800 miles or so). Normally, the dealer resets this for you when they change your oil... I like to know how to do stuff like this myself so here is the "How To".

How to reset the Maintenance Required Light:
1. Start truck
2. Make sure Odometer is set to ODO xxxxx
3. Turn key to full off position
4. Push odometer button and hold
5. turn key back to on position
6. Continue holding the odometer button
7. Dashes will appear where the mileage should be located, the dashes will then disapear one by one. Hold button tell they are all gone!
1 sec(- - - - -) 1.5sec(- - - -).. (- - -).. (- -).. (-)
When the dashes are gone the odometer will blink your current miles once, and the maintenance required light will turn off.

Note:
The Maintenance Required Light is different than the Check Engine Light...

05+ Tacoma Check Engine Light: How To Reset It

How To Reset the Check Engine Light:

1. Turn off truck
2. Open hood
3. Disconnect negative battery cable from terminal
4. Wait 2 minutes
5. Reconnect negative battery cable
6. Close hood
7. Start truck
8. Check engine light should be off!

This worked for me :)

EDIT:
OR, you could remove the EFI fuse and cycle the ignition switch 1-time to clear CEL's. Works just like pulling the battery but you don't have to reset everything inside your truck afterwards.

Thanks man, the dealer showed me how to do it when I did my first oil change, but I forgot what they showed me. Its has been on for 500 miles since I hit 10,000 and it has been bugging the hell out of me. I have been too lazy to call them for the how too.

Printing this out now:26_7_2: Thanks again.

Powder Coated Rear Bumper

Precision Powder Coat in Santa Ana did a nice job on the powder coat.

Sand blasted, zinc-dipped and powdercoated for $164 out the door :costumed-smiley-007
