Does Gen 1 have limited slip differential?

Some do, Some don't. Of course swaps are possible, even for a Mitsubishi Locker

Yes, the answer is that simple. if you aren't sure, generally if it has an LSD, the driver's door jamb will have an orange sticker with info about it.

Lift up the axle you are wondering with both tire off the group and spin one if the other spins the same way you have a lsd or locker if they spin opposite ways its open.

Generally if a Gen 1 has headlight washers, then it has a limited slip. No guarantee thou. I think its considered the "off road" package. What MR said about the "orange sticker".

If you want to add a traction aid, forget the LSD and swap in a Gen II rear locker diff.

This would be for the Gen 1 4 cyl '89 (uncommon) and '88 and earlier with leaf springs.
