Nice guys. Since you two are bmw aficionados what's the designation for the older mid 80's 5 series? Always liked that body style and would love to get one if they're reasonable and reliable to own as a daily driver.

You guys will probably hate me but I'll stick with my B5 S4 for a sporty car LOL... :D

You are probably thinking of the e28...which ran from 83 to 88. I have one, an m535i, and love it. They are easy to work on, fast, fun to drive, and look great.

Nice Montero you got there. Do you plan to be doing some overlanding? I am trying to find some good destinations less than 3 hours from the Houston area.

Yes. Good luck on that second part. You might want to invest in a c-130.

Ha! Congrats.

Thanks bud!
PS: Dolomiti , where did you come up with you forum name if I may ask.
I'm from Northeastern Italy and I lived on the foot of the Alps. We called that mountain chain the " Dolomiti"

Dolomiti is correct its the E28. Amazing cars and as bulletproof as cars get. They are the Montero of the Sports Sedan world minus the oil burning lol
Theres also the E12 which is the 5 series model from 72-84. About 90% the same as the E28 but slightly less reliable (or maybe just older).
As far as a daily driver you can't go wrong if you find a well kept car. Audis are great cars...until you have to fix them.
Lots of info over at www.myE28.com Also lots of cars for sale nationwide in the classifieds there.

I have always wanted a BMW 2002 they were my favorite looking. My aunt had one for a long time, I loved that little car. Made a few trips to Utah and back from Oregon. A friend of mine had an old 2000 that was neat as well.

I spent my formative years in the Friuli, though the mountains in that region are the the Carnic Alps. The Dolomiti are in the Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige. I spent a lot of time hiking and off-roading in a GTI and UAZ.

What part of Northeastern Italy?

A good friends dad specializes in painting older BMW's. He's done quite a few BMW sharks along with numerous 2002's. Many have been shown in Monterey. :Wow1:

Unfortunately he's not willing to touch my Audi. Too new and not a BMW LOL!!!

such a small world.

I was born and lived in Pordenone but also spent alot of time in Plasencis (UD) and Inglagnia (PN). My mother remarried to an airman stationed in Aviano AFB when i was a kid. I lived there for the first 14 years of my life until my family decided to move to the US. I spent much of my early teenage years hiking and climbing around the Carnic Alps myself. I know the Parco Delle Dolomiti is in veneto but most Friulani (Furlan) refer to the Carnic Alps as the Dolomiti Friulane. Never had a chance to any offroading due to my young age but I imagine it would be an amazing ordeal. I miss the area very much. To me it's one of the best kept secrets of Italy.

So Italy , Monteros and BMWs..... anything else I should know about ? lol

I was at Aviano AB from age 18-20, back in the late 90s. I am a fan of Pordenone and lived in Sacile.

I went to school on base from 94-96 and moved to the US in 97
I hear the base changed alot soon after I left.
Very cool.
Anyways , back to your Montero thread now :)

now waiting to Kiwiize it with some NZ plates and Pajero badges

Who knows, perhaps a snorkel, some OME, and an ARB bumper too?

Also, does anyone know if the gen 2.5 side badges with Pajero, instead of Montero, are available?

ebay has sellers who are offering oem badges. Here's one example.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mitsubishi-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c32fe05f9&vxp=mtr

Are those 33s? They look bigger in the pics. How does it drive with the bigger tires and lower gears?

Back to an earlier post in this thread, The Gen II.5 did not herald in the 4.27 gears (US market). That happened in 97 when the 3.5L SOHC became the US standard.

Really, really cool how you and Karmann are exchanging. Somtimes I think the web can really suck. Then you read things like the posts between you two and the web can be cool...!

I search when I had my 2.5, but never found them. You can replace them with lights. Do a search.
