Double Cab Lift Pics And Advice Please

Having a hard time figuring out what size lift to run. I have a 2004 Tacoma double cab. Ive been considering running a small spacer lift in the front and small shackles in the rear with 265 bfg km2s.

But I've also been thinking of a full Old Man Emu suspension lift with something like 33" km2s.....

Can someone please post a few pics of your tacoma and lift setups to give me some ideas?

I want to keep it street friendly to drive, but also give it a good stance as well.

Thanks for your input everyone.

Heres my 04 Doublecab

Front - 2 1/2" spacers (leveling kit)
Rear - Ride Rite Airbags ( I keep about 10 psi in them without camper, keeps it level )
Tires 265/75/16 Bfg A/T ( one size bigger than stock )

I installed HD Bilsteins, the yellow/blue ones, all the way around. I think the ride is much improved over stock, it's a little stiffer, less sway, and better cornering.

I probably would have gone with deaver leafs in the rear, or shackels and 5100's, but wanted the stock ride, and adjustability of airbags. We got baby in carseat, and with the camper off, and set the airbags to just a 10 psi, the stock ride is still nice.

There are lots of opinions on the best way to lift a truck, etc. This is what worked best for my needs, and my budget. Good luck on what you decide. Don't forget the before and after pics. I have some somewhere. These are just some I had uploaded already.

Thank you everyone for your input. Its truly helpful. From what I've gathered, I think I want to go with the Old Man Emu lift, but now what about a propper tire size? I dont really want to re gear it at the moment. I want to run the Bfg km2s. Stock size is a 265/70/16. What in metric size is equivalent to say a 33/10.5/15?

Again I thank all of you for your help.

Metric equivalent to 33/10.5 is 255/85r16 minus the rim size difference.

Regarding your suspension choices I recently installed the OME suspension on our '98 4Runner which is essentially the same front end set up as your truck and I am extremely happy with the results. Like you I didn't want to deal with regearing my rig so I stuck with the 265/75r16 size which gives a nice bump in size over the stock tire size of 265/70r16 but isn't enough to warrant a gear change. I went with the 881 coils and 90004 struts up front. In my opinion with the 2" lift the 265s still "fit" the fender wells nicely, anything more and a 285 would fit better.

If the OME is not an option from a cost perspective a lot of guys run the adjustable Bilstein 5100s and a rear Add-a-leaf with success. From my experience the Bilsteins do not provide as nice a ride and suspension travel as the OMEs but they are a nice upgrade over a traditional budget boost/spacer lift.

both of my trucks needed a little more carrying capacity for trips so...

04 double cab front
front = DR/Icon coilovers w/total chaos uppers
back = OME heavy springs + add a leaf + remote rez shocks

02 xtra cab
front = OME sports w/ heavy springs
back = OME heavy springs + add a leaf + OME sports

The 04 setup was not cheap, but it sure handles the high speed washboards nicely, even when loaded to the gills w/gear
The 02 setup is perfect for how I actually drive and much easier on the pocketbook

both trucks will run my set of Goodyear MTRs 235/85 r16, gas milage actually improved slightly over the 265/75s without a reargear. I still haven't figured out why that is :)

I can take a pic of the extracab if you really need it.

Here is my '04.

Front: OME mediums with a 10MM spacer and Bilstien 5100s. I do need to add a diff spacer kit. I have more angle than I care to on my CVs.
Rear: Stock springs with an AAl my buddy made up and a "1.5 lift block and Bilstein 5100s.

I wanted to go with OME Dakars but I have heard they have a pretty rough ride when empty. The setup I have rides pretty darn good loaded or unloaded.

I am running 285/75/16 Treadwright BFG AT copies and they have been excellent. A little heavy but not a problem. Especially for the $$. They are on FJ-80 black powdercoated wheels. I do get a little rubbing at full lock but none on the UCAs.

Here is my 02.
AllPro front coil overs and upper arms
9 leaf Deavers, AllPro shackles. She had Donahoe rear remote resi's on it when I got it, but they were too short. I ended up ripping off the upper shock mount... When welding a new one on I threw a set of 14" Billy 5125's. They dont ride as nice unloaded though.

I currently dont have the topper on and it rides pretty firm. With the topper/rack, gas cans, and 300ish lbs in the bed it rides absolutely fantastic.

As far as tires go, I went with Maxxis Bighorns in a 255/85-16. Honestly its the best thing I have done to this truck. The tall/skinny ratio is great, almost like it was designed for the small Taco. It did require some pounding of the rear wheelwell and unfortunately still rub a touch, but thats minor. I dont know how it would be with stock gears though as I have 4.88's in.

I have an '04 DC. I went with the full OME suspension with 882's, and am running 255/85R16 KM2's. I love it. But I will add that I did decide to regear. I was planning to go from stock 4.10 to 4.56, but the owner of the shop that did the gears talked me into 4.88, and I am glad he did. I am very happy with this setup.

Sorry, I don't have a current photo.
