Downsized* 1985 BJ70

El Gringo Spectacular!
So, I suppose I should have a formal introduction thread for the "new" rig, which replaced the Troopy!

1985 BJ70, North American Spec.
Legally imported and titled (Originally sold new at a Canadian dealership, and on the DOT list of eligible vehicles for import.)

3.4L 3B four cylinder diesel, naturally aspirated (for now....)
H55F five speed transmission
Front disk brakes
Power Steering
2.5" Old Man Emu medium suspension
33x10.5R15 BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires on 15x8 American Racing steelies.
Front and Rear ARB air lockers
Custom front/rear bumpers
Warn 8274 Winch

Formerly owned by Rodney B, Bullsac (Bullington Speed & Custom) here on Expo., who did the present mods.

I've spent the first couple of weeks working out several little items that Bull hadn't gotten to...

Because, well, what is the best way to break in a "new to me" Land Cruiser? Take a trip to Mexico! I leave for Baja in a week and a half!

First mods will be GPS and 2M/70 cm radio installations, along with recovery points, then I've got an itch for an OEM snorkel!

The 70 series seems to be the perfect blend of comfort, economy, capability, and style! So far I'm very pleased!

Yup! I'll have a roofrack to hold a Yakima Rocketbox, OZtent, and likely at least one kayak....

Very nice, I'm jealous.

Do you remember how to drive a left hand drive vehicle, or will you be taking lessons? :smiley_drive:

Sounds like you may be needing a canadian military trailer to go with your canadian BJ70!

I think you just described the BJ74... :peepwall: :sombrero:

This should be a pretty short build thread - it's pretty well done already!
Losing the back seat and adding a drawer set up was one of the best mods to my 70. The wheelwell-to-wheelwell floor added a lot of cargo space as well as the out of sight permanent storage in the drawer.

Nice, and not rusted too.

These trucks make me hate the California state government (even more than I already do).

I thought they came with FF rears?

Because I've got a little one the rear seat will stay in, unless I'm solo, when I'll take it out.

There's a bit of rust, but nothing some summer time cutting and brazing can't fix.

Semi floater rear axle.

Horton found a good home, I'm glad this materialized for you.

Pulling off that deal makes you the Ferris Beuller of the ExPo World!

My hat is off to you on that beautifully orchestrated maneuver. The next Coup d'etat I run, your my logistics' guy.
