Downsizing To A Jeep......

2012 jk rubicons with the auto have 4.10, at least the first half did. Jeep screwed it up at the beginning of the ordering cycle, so they essentially upgraded everyone. My understanding based on the discussions at the time, the 3.73 in the auto is equivalent to a 4.10 in the manual when all the ratios are lined up. The 4.10 in the auto is equivalent of one up from there. There are more in depth discussions on the jeep forums about it.

Really? I wouldn;t ecpect that...

Every case I know of when it comes to running lifts and tires manual>auto when leaving gears alone. Maybe this is just for stock gears? I'm curious....

4.10 with the auto, and stock is kinda low for the JK. At 100/60 on the highway RPMs are around 2450. I only ever managed to get 19.9 MPG once when stock. However if you're going to upgrade to 33s or 35s or pull a trailer, then it's great. I stuck it out for the first 14 mths with the stock tires. Since going to 33s I'm very happy that I paid the $75 for the 4.10s when I ordered mine.

Here is a post about it (there is much better one that really goes into detail but I can't find it). The big piece is it is comparing JK (2007-2011) to JK 2012+ only.

Also I misstated the 4.10 ordering snafu. If you ordered the optional 4.10, they gave it to you for free. The 2012 rubi were stock 3.73

I'm very sure I ended up paying $75 when I ordered mine in Nov of 2011. But then I'm in Canada, and we do lots of things backwards up here.

I am thinking about doing the switch too. I have a 99 f350 cc 7.3l 4x4 long bed, and a 97 tj. I have finally convinced the wife that we need a new JKUR. if my tj sells then I am pulling the trigger, if not, then i will keep them both and finally drop the money into the tj to make it the way i want. Proper suspension and axles w/lockers etc.

Ok...........I have the ITCH again

I found a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with only 25,000 miles on it

38" Yokohama Geolander M/T+ Tires (Including New Spare)
17" American Racing Wheels
PSC Hydo Assist Steering
5:38 Yukon Gears

It is VERY nice

I'm assuming some sort of lift and some work on the front axle as well? To go with a tire bigger than a 35, there's a bunch of work that should be done to the front axle to do it properly.

What are you planing to do with this Jeep? If you're planning to rock crawl then it sounds nice. You couldn't give it to me for overlanding. Too far from stock, too much stress on critical areas, terrible gas mileage, parts are likely specialized and harder to find relative to pulling into Jeep dealership anywhere. I would also bet that those were a hard 25k miles. Just my two cents for what it's worth.

I would look for a newer Jeep with the 3.6 engine. If you get a 2012, make certain the heads have been switched.

I always draw a little friendly fire for comments like these... I've had them all, hated the 07 to 11 minivan motors. Underpowered oil burners. Not saying they don't work. They are reliable just keep them full of oil. I personally wouldn't buy anything other than a 12, 13, or 14 and probably a Rubicon. I'd only get a 07 to 11 JK if I was going to put a Hemi or LS in it.

Currently I have a 13 JKU-R 3.6L, 10 Commander 5.7L, 05 LJ-R 4.0L, and 97 XJ 4.0L. Note the missing years and motors.
