Hello,
so i found a very rare F-450 in Europe (https://autoline.de/-/Verkauf/Abschleppwagen/Ford/F-450--25052012010576942900) and am a bit confused about one detail.
So as far as people explained it to me in this very forum, one of the potential upsides of the older Super Dutys is the narrower front end, which if compined with a rear axle convertet to single rear wheels or with sinfle rear wheels to begin with, could lead to a slightly narrower truck alltogether.
Not unfortunatly as far as i know the newer Dana Super 60 used 2006+ in the front end is stronger, with 6000lbs up to the F350, 7000lbs for the F4-550 and an impressive 7500 with the F600. Of course for the F450 and up it will also be even wider than the already pretty wide base model, which on the other hand offers a betr turning radius.
But what about the F-4-550's of the past? The truck behind the link only has a rating of 5600, which feels kinda low for a truck with such a high GVWR and massive rear axle. Is this really the same "weak" standard Dana 60 used undr all the smaller Super Duty Pickups? Because i thought for the big boys Ford came up with a a still narower but stronger version, that can at least go up to 6000 or maybe like 6500lbs?
Kind regards,
Marcus
