Drop down fridge slide

I had the Tembo Tusk drop-down slide. It is built like a tank and Jerry was great to deal with but after the install we found that my wife had a hard time using it. She is small (4' 10") and found that it was too heavy for her to operate standing outside the vehicle. Even standing on the tailgate of my 100-series it was really awkward for her to operate. In the end we decided to sell it. I am going with a fixed solution in place of the single, second-row seat in my LC.

FWIW, we saw the Engel slide that Slee sells at Cruise Moab a few years ago and found that with it's lighter construction, my wife could easily operate it.

If you have a vertically challenged spouse, try and find someone that has the TT slide and make sure they can operate it.

Seriously, Caleb, you should consider the tilt down design. Its not as blingy as the tembo tusk style drop down, but it certainly wins in simplicity. Just google tilt down fridge slider. You'll find plenty of guys in Australia who DIY these types.

Scott, just googled tilt down fridge slider and saw some great idea's. Some a little more involved than others. Yeah not as blingy which is so easy to get caught up in when simple and effective is the way for certain things.

Anyone know the weight capacity required for the drawer slides themselves? I was thinking 250lbs but not sure if I'm overshooting or what.

TIA.

I've got 150lb slides on my uni-directional slide out. If I go to a tilt-slide version I would use 250-300lb slides. You must remember the types of forces involved and how that effects the slides (in force multiplication).

It depends on how big / heavy your set up (fridge) is...
I got a 90L NL so I will probably go with a 500@ slide.
Accuride has them at 500@ but go down to 300@ on a mobile application... I remember reading this somewhere...

I have the 50L ARB fridge. I was thinking a figure of 250lbs minimum especially when I'll be doing everything from simple overlanding to rock crawling the Rubicon and Dusy Ersham Trails.

I also just spoke with a tech rep at Rockler Woodworking about this in some detail noting the specific's of my application, size/weight of my fridge and they recommend the Accuride 9301 model which is the only one they have rated for vehicle use.
