Dual-Sport AT Chaser build

Hi,
I’m 14, and have been on ExPo for a few months. I can’t quite drive, and don’t have a rig yet, so I spend time making modifications on Google SketchUp to existing vehicles. I built an AT Chaser and have done a few revisions on that. The most recent (and probably most practical  ) is a dual sport bike carrier, that splits the Chaser tub into two sections, one remaining a storage box, the other becoming the bike platform. I attached a few pics...

The picture with the colors indicates what part it is (green-top, blue-divider, red-removable front wall, white-permanent part of tub) and shows how the pieces are held in

The top will still use the gas strut when it is a whole, and i figure it should be light enough as a half (no rack load) to do without one.

Features:
-retains water/dust-proof (rubber seals in dividers)
-dividers "float" (not bolted in, held by the top)

Concerns:
-won't close correctly with the divider in (i'll experiment with some plywood or something)
-rubber seals might wear out quickly
-weight balance without load in tub
-overall stability

Is there anything I'm missing? :smiley_drive:

-Trey

Wow Trey!
Welcome to ExPo.

You could add an Overcamp RTT to the top of the box and have a RTT while retaining space for the bike.

Regards,
Brian

WOW!!! These are all GREAT IDEAS!!! I am very impressed. I am a senior in college in Mechanical Engineering and I know plenty of kids here that couldn't design something half as elegant and practical. Keep working on this and learn as much as you can along the way. Projects like this are what are going to get you places. Best of luck, seriously!

Welcome to ExPo Trey. You keep this kind of stuff up and we're going to have to ground you from the computer and send you outside.

Just kidding...

Very well thought out, illustrated and executed. I bet your going to do well in life and you and your parents should be proud.

Holy $#!^ Trey. 14 and has ideas like this... You guys at AT better keep tabs, this kid could be your next design guy. hate to see him go to a competitior :)

Trey, careful never "give" away ideas that "will" make some one else money. :D
Great job and keep it up man. If I had stayed with drafting and architectural design I would not be the unemployed grunt that I am today.

How are you dealing with structural rigidity with half the trailer removed along with the imbalance of weight on the box side when the bike is not on the trailer? :ylsmoke:

Trey and I have already had a short e mail dialogue prior to his posting.

Wonderful to see someone his age with a keen eye.

I'm expecting great things, so far I'm not disappointed.
