Duplexer/Triplexer?

Bear with me here since this seems simple, but I am a total newbie ham. I inquired earlier about a tri-band antenna, but have since ditched that plan for a simple/tough dual band. Enter duplexer and triplexer.

If I wanted to use a two antenna setup with a tri-band radio could I:

-Use a triplexer to seperate 144/220/440.
-Then use a duplexer to combine 144/440 for use with the dual band antenna.

???

To futher explain the logic of my thoughts here, I'll add that having a second antenna mount will serve more than just adding a rarely used band. I have a clearance issue getting the truck (My DD) in the garage everyday. Just the same the NMO through the roof is the optimal placement, and I'd like to stick with my plans to do that.

If I did the setup described above I could add a lip mount to the hood with an NMO connector. On the trail/trip it would have a 220 antenna on it and the roof would have the 2/70. For everyday use, I could reverse the output to the antennas and put the 2/70 on the hood and just put a cap on the roof to make it easy to get in and out of the garage.

...Am I outta my mind? :coffeedrink:

The only time I've used a duplexer in my truck is when I needed the radio to discern FM from HF into the same antenna. In your case, I'd simply place an antenna switch in an inconspicuous place and switch between them as needed. Much cheaper than a duplexer as well.

Ha, that seems simple. I like it. It would make switching the antenna to the other mount quicker and have a lot less signal loss.

I knew there was something overly complicated about your original post. xtatik summed it up...

But again, I'd forgo that 220 band altogether... 5+ years licensed, and never needed it once. Not to mention no one else uses it, so your chances of pulling up someone on 220 to get help are reduced compared to 2m/70cm.

Really it's just giving me justification for the second mounting location. You're right, I will probably not use the 220.

How's this for justification....

My second coax for the second NMO mount on top can be used for second ham radio/special band, OR my CB radio...

That sounds pretty solid.

FWIW I also looked into an antenna I could leave on around town, (short/fat rubber ducky that's shaped like a coke can) but as you could guess the performance borders on that of a dummy load.:snorkel:
