Old ARB bumper mounts. I have to say anything ARB is nice to work with. These are some beefy bumper mounts.

I got the bumper, lights, and winch installed today. The lightforce lights are a good product.

I really had a chance to dig around the truck and look at the wiring and other items. Eric did a great job on all the wiring and the routing was spot on. I have found a total of six clips not pushed in. One was missing on the hood latch cable and the rest were on the harnesses that push into the fender liners.

I replaced both of the front fender liners today. The donor truck had a rust undercoating all over the bottom of it and it made the fender wells look terrible. The LH liner was damaged from the accident damage, so I just replaced both. I also installed a hood insulator that I forgot to ship with the new hood.

Issues I'm still having:

My hood alignment is still off in relation to the fenders and headlamps. This style of front end is always a pain to align and my suburban is no different.

The rear end pinion angle still needs to be adjusted. I have an appointment with my local 4wd shop next week to get that handled. They are also going to weld up the exhaust and remove all of the clamps.

My dash lights and gauge pod lights are on all the time when the ignition is on. What is odd about this is I can still dim the lights and turn them off with the factory knob so they are wired correctly. I'm thinking this may be a computer issue, or possibly operator error. I will check on this more tomorrow.

I'm driving my Suburban all weekend to rack up some miles. I will update with some new pictures when I get to a computer.

Does look good. Gotta love the mad cat eye front ends.

Do you know what the differences (if any) are between the suburban and pickup rear frame? You said above they cut up the rear of the suburban frame for mock up, was that another frame they had lying around? Or did they use the truck frame? I am digging the fuel tank and 30 extra gallons would be great.

Also, are you using the rear tank as a reserve style? I assume you will be using it to fill the main tank as you use that fuel, correct? I had that kind of system in my landcruiser and loved it. You can never have too much fuel in the backcountry.

Sorry if I missed this question.

They did cut a frame down that they had, and did final fitment in my truck. It is a two tank system that only the suv's have.

No problem. I took a closer look at my truck and it is very different than the suv frame in the rear.

If the dash lights are on all the time, you might want to check the ambient light sensor. If the BCM sees no light, it's going to force the dash lights on along with the headlamps. If that is the case the headlights should be on. We see this at the dealership I work at pretty frequently when people put dashmats on the dash that shroud the light sensor (that little dome in the center of the defroster duct). Force the autoheadlamps off by turning the headlamp know to the left and see if the dash lights go out.

It must have been operator error, because everything is working fine today. It was over cast and late in the day so it very well could have been the dash sensor.

Wheel advice

I think I'm going to freshen up the look with a new set of wheels and a matching spare. I never really liked the wheels that are on it now, but I got them off Craigslist for a steal. I hate the fake beadlock look.

Anyway I was thinking of a set of trailready beadlock wheels, or something I can break down without the use of a tire mounting machine. I'm open to all ideas.

Any further thoughts on the additional fuel tank/cell that was installed? Other than the additional capacity; does this tank feed into the original tanks you have? I noted that Eric stated that the fuel gauges were set/calibrated so it showed the aggregate amount for all three tanks. I also found that in 03 they went to the dual tank system; however in my 02 there's just one 38.5 gal tank. Hoping Eric and crew can build tank and parts and send to me so I don't have to send my truck from Seattle to Florida :)

Also - hope your son is doing well after his surgery!

Thanks for asking about my son he is doing excellent!

The tank system has been great. The only issue I have noticed is the range, or DTE tops out around 650 miles. I'm not real sure if it doesn't go higher, or what. Eric told me the range is learned by the computer and will have to have a couple of tanks run through it to be fully functional. At the pace I'm going that will be a couple of months.

I have driven roughly 300 miles since I filled it up and the gauge is between the F and a 3/4 of a tank. The DTE still reads 610 miles.

There are only two tanks in my truck. The factory side tank and the new tank that takes the place of the factory tank over the spare. I know it required extending the fuel pump lines and a new fuel pump for the rear tank.

I really think you could use it as a transfer tank with a switch that just pumps it into the primary tank. It would require you to monitor the transfer and turn off the switch, but it would be much easier to install. That would be cool in your truck, it would have a 70 gallon capacity. :)

Today my truck is at the muffler shop getting the exhaust welded up and then it's going across the street to get the pinion angle issue worked out.

I drove it all day Monday and got 14.5 MPG with mixed city and highway miles. That is almost a 100% improvement in MPG. Reasonably that is the best I'm going to get with 37" tires and a heavy foot.

Glad to hear your son is doing well. Tough watching our children dealing with illnesses.

I haven't heard much from diesel Excursion owners on mileage; but on the pickup side 14-16 seems to be normal with an automatic. I'm told that with a 5 speed manual you can hit 21; my father in law reported 24 in a early 90's Dodge cummins non turbo.

Like your idea of the transfer tank; I dont have the fancier electronics to deal with on mine so DTE and others aren't a factor. Just like either taking advantage of a good fuel price or not having to fill up quite so much. I figure since Duraburb has the template its easier than having someone else re-invent it.

Take care! :)

Still working on the pinion angle issue. The guy at the four wheel drive shop who works on my truck was on vacation last week. He just really got to looking at it yesterday. The owner of the shop called last week and said the conversion looked great.

I will post again when it gets out of the shop.

Hello,
Haven't checked site in quite some time.
To answer the question about the 8.1 , it was stock and got around 7-9 mpg. Since
My Duraburb conversion I have put around 3,000 miles on the truck and the best mpg is
15.2 all highway, around town around 13-14. Expected 18-20 but, it's better than 7-9 with the 8.1.
And the power blows away the 8.1.Still longing for 20mpg though.
Kelly, I have also noticed a shimmy in My rear end and the steering alignment is way off as well is the steering wheel
direction. I have had some issues with the sending unit also on mine.Eric is sending My paperwork so I can get the alignment fixed. Please let Me know if You find out whats causing the rear end problems. Nice job on truck looks great, I see You went with the Chevrolet front clip I have gotten a lot of comments on that, it trips people out. Eric is a great guy, he is a gentleman on the phone and is very polite and helpful. I Love My Yukon just need to work a few bugs out which is to be expected.
