\\'e did it

We did our first rock climb last weekend. It was great, my buddy is a natural, he practically walked right up a 5.9 climb like it was nothing, I had a little difficulty but enjoyed it thoroughly. My wife also enjoyed it. Our guide was a great teacher with years of experience, some of our group cancelled, giving us more time to try some extra climbs. We will probably do it again soon.

My turn (I do not remember it being that steep)

Two things
1. its hard to take climbing pictures showing the correct angles. Too many pictures of everyones butt, lol.

2. How the heck do you guys get your rope on the top anchors? (do you climb the rock, loop the rope, climb down, then climb up again, then down and then back up to get the rope?)

Our climbs were easy, we had a guide do all of that for us.

It usually works like this
1. Someone Lead climbs up starting at the bottom, placing gear(anchors) on the way up to minimize his fall.
2. He reaches the top, and sets up a sturdier set of anchors on top suitable for belaying and rappelling.
3. He pulls the rope through the anchors to the mid-section and rappels down, leaving the rope where you had it.

If that doesn't make sense, let us know and I can clarify it or someone else can take a shot at explaining climbing rope work.

All good stuff.

I love climbing but never get to do it enough. I have yet to make it outside for more than a little bouldering but hope to one of these days.

Good explanation of top-roping Redbeard.

Nice pictures.

I am not fond of heights much either, but for some reason the heights did not bother me much, i don't know if it's because of the rope or if its because your too busy looking for a place to put your hands and feet. The scariest part was being lowered down after the climb, hanging by a knot without the security of a rock to cling to.

Thanks Redbeard

I was only half serious, I was just thinking to myself "how would I go out next weekend with my other noob friend and climb without a rope being set up for us." I realize im a noob and have just got a small sample of what climbing is all about. Obviously I would need more training or go climbing with someone more experienced for a while. Now its time for an anchoring class
