That's indeed a beautiful vehicle. I'm not gonna buy it, but I'll bet I think about that one for years, and wouldn't be surprised if it turns into a "one that got away" memory...

cooooooool, i've seen a few germans driving these through town along the Alaska Highway in the summers. Very eye-catching!

Seems very well thought out, I would love to swap a more powerful power plant in one some day.

It is a great looking rig; I considered it for a brief moment... but I'm not convinced of the described history. The description says it was used for the 1984 French Cycling team but the photo of the vin tag shows that it was manufactured in 11/84. Not that this means much, but I would not take the history as fact without some research.

this may be legit, because the french team would have used the french license plates and the vin plate would have been done "at time of import", meaning, not when it landed on the shores of USA, but when they decided to register it in America and get a US title. Back then, pre 1986 you could do this no problemo.

I have one of these too, its a 1980 Westfalia 207d. It gets remarkable 28 mpg and can haul 2000 lbs in the back no problem (but not fast)
There are about 15 of them in North America (the westy camper version, which is usually known as the James Cook Explorer)
There are about 50-60 of the regular cargo vans and window vans.
There are maybe 5 of the chassis cab/truck version, and about 5 tow trucks.
