Eurovan Blu.O (2.0)

Weather has been nice.

Not much time to work on it but did roll out the new flooring to start working on it. This will cover the entire van from the front seats back.

Should make for a durable and easy cleaning floor for outdoor adventures!

Its a slightly dark grey that should give a nice sporty feel to the inside of the Eurovan.

Samba has already started the testing!

You're kinda stingy with the links...;)

Isn't that flooring Loncoin or something like that? I was thinking of using something like that in my van, carpet isn't going to work for me.

Stripped all the carpet off the wood subfloor today.

Then installed all the new vinyl flooring, and color matched the rear bed support legs to the outside of the van.

I also cut down the passenger seat base to get it ready for a seat swivel. This way it will be at the stock height with the swivel on it. I also painted this with the same Techno Blue metallic as the outside of the van. Still have some more custom touches planned for the seat base but this was all for today!

Nice project and I've enjoyed your other threads as well. We have similar tastes in most aesthetics I think but body colored interior bits isn't one of them. Looks cheap in my opinion and after seeing way too many painted plastic dashes in teenager's vehicles I'm just soured to it. Kinda like when somebody pops the hood on their green camaro and has a green air filter from ebay with green rubber boots connecting the "chrome" air intake piping and green spark plug wires with a green distributor cap and green vacuum tubing and a green battery hold-down and green brake booster and chrome alternator and green "power pulleys" and green radiator cap and oh yeah a green aluminum oil fill cap. really not my thing. Maybe keeping it down low and on seat bases will help. I know you'll do what suits you (as well you should), just one man's opinion over here.
.
I'm sure my cartoony photoshop profile picture isn't helping my case! LOL
.
Excited to see this project progress! Thanks for sharing.

One of my biggest dislikes of the Eurovan is the 100% grey automotive interior in what is supposed to be a fun camper.

One thing that sucks about many new car interiors is that they are the same no matter what color the outside of the car is. Nothing to tie the inside and outside together.

Old cars all had interiors color matched to the exterior. Go look at the inside of everything from day one of the automobile to the 70s and even Jeeps into the 80s. Does the body color dash of a jeep CJ or Chevy/Ford/Dodge 30s/40s/50s/60s/70s pickup look ricer?

You are looking at poorly done color matched custom cars if it looks cheesy to you. Porsche, Mini, Mercedes and many other fun car companies do interior bits to match the exterior paint on modern cars. It's only the cheap companies trying to make one interior fit every car that have stopped doing it.

The bits you see painted here are steel, not plastic. Nothing says boring car that steel interior parts painted dull automotive grey.

Fwiw, the stock seat bases on my Sprinter were painted from the factory to match the outside of the van. I painted the rear seat bases I added to that van to make them all match.r

I get it. I realized steel vs plastic. Actually a favorite of mine is the 50s Chryslers, Cadillacs, Packards, etc with their pattern painted dashes and yes, I do find the body color dashes of a CJ and old F1 unattractive. Not in a rice way, but a "all one big part" way. Like I said, personal taste is exactly that, personal. Cool van, cool start to what I'm sure will be a cool van. Thanks again for the chance to follow along from home

Some finishing touches on the seat bases (still more to do)

Small item storage on the sides of seats. There are 4 of these carpeted and bungee corded areas to put small things on. Organization and "places to put things" is key in a small camper.

Agree completely- I had a '71 Westy, spent a lot of time in it many years ago in Baja and beyond. Solved some of this clutter by adding pockets, incorporated into the curtains. Added velcro closures to keep them from falling open when loaded.

They work well for lightweight, flat items (books, maps, cutting board) and are also a good place to put small things you don't want visible when people look inside.

I recently sewed curtains for my current Baja camper (Callen on a small truck) and added pockets. I'm thinking of adding some curtains for the rear doors that can be easily removed, to hang in camp, to hold more kitchen supplies.

Damn you and your "pocket curtain" idea!!!:coffeedrink:

I'm planning on replacing the bland curtains with someone different and adding pockets is genius! Thanks!!

Curtain Pockets

Ha! Thanks- I appreciate the feedback!

I lack the mechanical skills so many on this forum employ when designing camper interiors, but enjoy sewing, so... happy to contribute ideas when I can.

FYI- I didn't velcro the current pockets, as before. Instead this time I just bar-tacked in a few places to keep them upright and easier to reach into, 1-handed. If/when I add the indoor/outdoor kitchen pockets I might use velcro to keep utensils etc. from falling out.

Also tried to match up the fabric pattern so it's not obvious they are pockets- just to keep folks from digging around if I leave the doors open, and/or during highway checkpoint stops. (The Mexican military sets up check points in Baja and routinely search vehicles for drugs, guns etc.)

I'll be keeping an eye on your build.

W/Matilda

PS- tomorrow I go check out a diesel E350 with a very clean looking ambulance build. Only 42K miles... could be my next camper project.

One of my favorite aspects of our new sprinter is the exterior body color being visible on the exposed metal inside.
This thing has enough ugly cheap grey plastic inside.......I wish the dash was metal and body color.
The painted seat bases are cool.
The blue eurovan is the only bright blue vehicle I have ever coveted.
Cool new van, congrats!
The curtain pockets make tons of sense.

Front shocks arrived. Bilstein HD. Still waiting on the rears.

Somedays it can take me for ever to do a simple project.

It's a pretty good indicator of a bad shock if it won't expand:lol3

Here's where I really slow things down. I can't stand dirty old car parts. I just flat out bugs me to put nasty crap back on a car.

Notice the shock mount plate above? Well, those took the most time since I had to degrease them, media blast them, and repaint them with an automotive paint......I considered painting them blue to match the van just to drive people in this thread nuts:snorkel:.....okay black will work!! Now they can go back in the van!!:coffeedrink:

(I actually pulled this back apart and did another coat after this picture)
