Hello!
We are traveling from Argentina to Alaska on board our Mitsubishi L300 4x4 (Delica).
At this time we are in Santa Cruz, California.
We need to change our old engine but we couldn´t find any engine that it serve to us.
Our car uses a Mitsubishi 4G63 engine, 4-cylinder 2.0 cc petrol carburettor.
We asked at the store "Attarco" and they told us that they don´t have an engine that can replace ours.
Does anybody know where we can get a motor and where do a workshop to change the engine?
We are from Argentina and we don´t know too many people in California.
Any ideas or suggestions will be very welcome and we will be very grateful.
Regards
Patricio

Hola!

The closest match could be the 4G63 found in the Mitsubishi Galant (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Sirius_engine) although I believe they are not carbureted engines (electronic fuel injection).

Alternatively perhaps the 4G64 2.4L 4 cylinder gas engine found in the 1997-1999 Montero Sport may work although I definitely cannot confirm that it would match your transmission. You need to check if it's carbureted or fuel injected.

What about it needs replacing? I wonder if you can find a 2.0 short block and bolt the rest of your stuff onto it? The block itself should be plentiful.

I have one of those in my garage....seriously. But it is from my race car with only 100 or so miles on it so I am sure it is not going to work for them. This is the standard Mitsu eclipse, eagle talon motor from 90 to 99. Plenty of them in the local pick n pulls. If you can get a message to them, tell them to talk to Road Race Engineering in Santa Fe Springs. A few hours south, but they have many sources and know which places can ship to them. I also have some spare parts left too so if there is something small that would help them out, let me know. Feel free to post my info on that forum. I have plenty of experience with those so if they need some help I can meet up over the weekend.

I don't have a source for an engine, but if you need any help locally, I'd be happy to do what I can. I'm about an hour and a half north of you.

Thank you everybody for answering and dealing with my problem. I'm really grateful.
If I do not answer quickly is because I am currently in a place away from the city and is very dificult the conection to internet.
I hope you can understand me because is really dificult explain this stuff in other idiom.

Thank you very much for the advice. I´ll take this into account.
At this point I think that the best thing is change the entire engine.
I talked to several mechanics and they recommended to do a complete change. My engine had many problems and at this instance it can not to be repaired by parts. It must be replaced entirely.
