What mike2100 said, in the auto's it reads from the abs sensors so re-gearing does not effect the speedo but if you have a manual and re-gear you can get a dakota digital sgi-5 to fix your speedo.
 
Regarding the rear leaf spring setup. What did you guys have the springs rated for weight wise and lift wise? Did you order an off-the-shelf setup of go through the process of ordering completely custom you can with Alcans or Deavers :p I noticed you added a 1" lift block as well, any particular reason for this? Was this just to level out the rear after the custom springs?

I'm looking into heavier duty springs for the rear of my truck for hauling two dual sports, (approx 600lbs+100lbs of gear in the bed on occasion) just to stiffen up the ride when hauling and get a little extra lift to compliment a 2.5" front coilover lift in the future.

We installed a CX topper that is flush mount with the roof. We are putting a full Baja rack on the topper and over the cab so we wanted the racks to be flush. We also wanted to keep our top load as low as possible when we install our Ezee awn 1400 Exclusive tent on that rack. For added safety and CG. Scott Brady is shaking his head on the rooftop mounted equipment already. We can see you from here Scott!

Do you mind elaborating on this setup a bit? I'm trying to do some research for my Taco build project and I can't find an explicit topper load capacity on ARE, Leer or SnugTops websites so I'm curious what the load limits are for your model. Quick back-of-the-napkin math yields that's roughly 500lbs of weight sitting on the rack/topper while sleeping at night (100lbs for the tent + 400+lbs of humans).

I'm also curious how your Baja Rack is attached to the topper. I know the BR sits in the factory mounts above the cab, but how does that carry over to the topper? Finally, would you ever mount the tent to the cab or do you always prefer it over the bed? I'm assuming you prefer the latter just for added weight over the rear wheels?

Your truck is truly an inspiration for both Taco owners and aspiring overlanders - please don't stop the adventures.

Looks like we have the same hairline. Then again no amount of hair will hide that one!
I have a similar setup (07 dcsb, v6, auto, 285's, lots of extra metal hanging off it). i was having the same debate in my head and in the end 4.10 were to much of a pain to get together so i ordered 4.56 and let me tell you what you will fall in love with you truck all over again!! night and day difference and i went from getting 14mpg avg. to 17/18mpg (both are mixed hwy/city).




P.S. your front diff may only be 60lbs and you may think the jack is in the way but holding it for 5min trying to get it back up in the truck is not a good idea.

lol ya not enough for a comb over these days. I tried putting on a hat to go to dinner that night and the bump ended up looking like a peanut lol, took about 2 months for it to fully go away.

If you're referring to the shower nozzle, I believe the piranha shower is installed on the Tacoma.

Maybe this has already been answered, but is this truck running any wheel spacers with the 285's?

No they're not. I asked and they said they get slight rubbing on the UCAs. Lots of miles on their truck cycling the suspension too so I'd imagine you'd be ok. I went ahead and mounted my 285s to FJ Trail Teams wheels, which have a 1/4" less backspace.
