Expedition Portal Builds an Axial SCX-10 Dingo

I began helping Matt with this a few weeks ago. It is not a two person project as it requires lots of patience and working with one part at a time. It really is like building a mini 4wd. It became apparent that I was just in the way and not helping whatsoever so I put the axle down and let Matt go at it, lol. I look forward to actually seeing it finished now.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a motor and servos?

Servo = Hitec 645

Motor = Integy 35t handwound

Both are very inexpensive options while being good on performance and longevity. I have both in my scaler and they never let me down.

Do you plan on driving this thing in water also? If so it is pretty easy to waterproof everything and it's a ton of fun when you can drive in deep water without worrying about it.

I might even come up from Tucson for a mini expo run.

We will do what I call marathon scale runs down here. We pick a hiking trail, take a backpack with food and water, a ton of extra batteries, and run for miles. It's a blast.

The Hitec 645 was most used when I was into the hobby. I still have my rig, but not sure if something better has come out.

The 645's are only really common on scalers these days. Comp rigs are running 7950's and 7980's, loads more torque and a lot more money...

When would everyone like to organize a ExPo R/C event? Clearly it would have to involve some off-roading in our larger vehicles to get to a cool spot!

We could also unveil the ExPo Dingo there!

There is some great crawling (small scale) around Watson Lake where the RC guys compete. Close to home, and BBQ after?

Today was a bit slow at the office, I was ahead on my work - so I decided to work on the Axial for a good portion of the day.

I'm still very impressed by the level of detail that goes into these trucks - the shocks are filled with fluid and work almost like a full size shock you could find on one of our vehicles. The car even has a transfer case and a multi-link suspension.

I'll be attempting to pick up a motor and servo this weekend, all I need to do now is install the steering and electronics and paint the body and we'll be ready to go.

We need to start planning an unveil and meet up!
