Expedition Portal Project JK

Expedition Portal has started its first official project vehicle, a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. This is also the FORM Cycles company adventure machine and will serve dual purpose as a mountain bike transport and family camping rig.

When I worked with FORM to build my personal mountain bike, I became good friends with Daryl the owner and we found that our mutual interests extended well beyond two wheels. Daryl is also an avid camper and explorer and loves 4wds too.

This project will be different from our typical vehicle which is intended for two people and a low COG. Daryl travels with his wife and child and their dog too. Oh, and a few mountain bikes on the back. That means there is no choice but a rack and other roof mounted accessories.

Stage one will be all about storage and getting some basic camping systems in place. We will also start improving their bumpers and provide some protection for the sheet metal. More details soon!

And it was a fun afternoon at the shop while the team worked on Daryl's Jeep, Daryl was making a few modifications to my Form Mtn. Bike, including bigger brakes and a wider, taller handlebar.

Looking forward to following this thread. I'm probably going to get a 2012 JK when they come out, and do my backcountry exploration.

Sweet this should be interesting. I like the idea of building something for the everyday user, family, camping rig, kids, dogs, etc. Not all of us can travel to all the fun places, seeing something built for the everyday user would be awesome.

I'm liking this angle as well, but I can't help but ask why another Jeep? I would have loved to see this be and AWD Astro Van, or something of the like. I can't drive down a street in the US without seeing yet another built up Jeep.

Just sayin. I look forward to the build anyway! :coffee:

I've never heard of Form Cycles, but after browsing their site... DO WANT.

Well, kinda. Steel is real. ;) Though I can't seem to part with my '98 GT Xixang.

All I can say is Cool! A real world practical build that is relevant to my own personal parameters. Excellent!
