Hey everyone,

So I’ve decided to sell my super rare 2 door 300tdi discovery 1 that I fully kitted out for two person overland travel. Im only selling because the opportunity to move to another vehicle has become available- so absolutely no trades.

the truck is extensively modified, but engine wise kept rather stock as you shouldn’t mod up 300tdi’s. 4000kms ago it had a full AMC engine rebuild. Which cost over 186,000rand or $13,000usd. Over 300k rand ($20k usd) has been put into it within the past 2 months on top of the vehicle purchase price.

Super reliable 300tdi- even more reliable with the AMC head and internals & new fuel pump, etc.

GETS 24.7MPG, long range 32gal double reinforced fuel tank, gets you reliably 750 miles per tank fully loaded. 24.7mpg is with the spare tire on the roof- expect it to go up even more if that were removed.

other accessories include:
  • Long range fuel tank
  • Big bore expedition shocks and springs
  • Heavy duty shafts
  • New transfer case
  • Heavy duty clutch
  • Custom front and rear bumpers
  • Custom pop top camper
  • Custom interior
  • 2 new engine batteries
  • 1 new house battery
  • Duel batter charger system
  • 140w solar system
  • 1000w inverter
  • 40l water tank
  • 45l domestic fridge
  • Skid plates
  • 12000lb winch w/synthetic cable
  • 5 brand new Maxxis tires on Wolf steel rims
  • 2 bushwhacker off road lights
  • Heavy duty I-track's
  • And a lot lot more

asking price is $25,000usd, it’s eligible for import to canada immediately, 9 months until eligible for USA import. Fully locks up for safe RORO shipping. If you buy it and want to tour Africa first this can also be easily arranged. Located in Cape Town. All set and landed in USA or canada you’ll be around $28,000-$30,000 invested depending on how you want shipped.

Bought and built it from its completely stock form- like how you'd pick it up from the dealer back in 1998.. This is one of less than 70 2 door 300tdi's built with this configuration.

Custom top construction. The top of it is extremely strong- you can safely sit up there with two lawn chairs or even a mattress to sleep under the starts. The top construction is 1" aluminum square tubing spaced 1' apart, that was also fitted with 1" foam insulation and sound deadening in-between the ribs. Twin 1000nm Gas shocks make it easy to open the top even with the spare tire mounted- and just as easy to take down and lock up.

First the defender and now this? What's next for you?

Cool rig... did you use Alucab parts for the pop-top camper? Parts of it look familiar...
I second that. You have the mot interesting vehicles. Now this one with a toilet paper holder and a skate board. Wonderous!

It sounds like a sin being a Land Rover guy, but I sent the funds today for a (1HZ) 78 series troop carrier with a alucab top and interior. Got it for an insanely good deal- less than I have into the disco actually.

The top was a full custom one off by a company in Cape Town called Alu-Innovations. They all used to work at alucab, but broke off to start their own company about 5 years ago..

I try to keep my builds unique but still very practical at the same time. I have a ton of fun designing and building vehicles, can't wait to share the cruiser outfit over on my other thread with you guys. Its pretty cool.

Ill miss the 25MPG this 300tdi disco get though, especially with the current fuel prices

I'm not sure how many people that view this have done a full ground up build like this before- but I did the math, and if you did it at a USA labor rate this build would've cost you $59,217.. So at $20k ($25k shipped and landed) this is an extreme bargain.
